If i were you i'd give it to the police. If you go and register it you might come into some problems if it comes back with a history

where at did you find it? in an Urban park near a drug dealers house or something lol? if it's a .22 or .25 i'd be a little bit leary. gang bangers like to carry those b/c they're small and easier to conceal. plus their cheap.

Post up a pic. My intrest is peaked on this one. After we all take a guess, visit a gunshop and find out what it is. Being in the mud, it could be rusty in places that it shouldn't. I definately would not fire it.
Keith

ewalt
12-04-2008, 12:49 AM
Yeah, deckerent is right. Unless you don't really value your hands, probably best not to fire it. You need to at least have a competent gunsmith look at it first if you dared to try it.

And blackpony, in Ohio you can't even register a gun if you wanted to afaik. There is no such system.

I wanna see pics too lol.

Mista Bone

fuck, he's back!

Best thing to do with the pistol, wait till some police department offers a $100 grocery card for tuning in a gun. I turned in a nonworking 22 short pistol for $100 card, help feed me when I was down and out.

How cool would it be if it's some missing murder weapon? I'd at least take it and get it checked out if it's some kind of weird gun that you can't tell the make of...but then i'd definitely turn it in. If you found some sweet old knife or something then yeah i might keep it but a gun...nah.

12-04-2008, 10:08 PM
There are some things you just don't want to find...

You can contact your local LEO and drop it off, if it comes back clean (no bodies) you should be able to pick it up if the owner can't be found (lost/stolen weapon report).

Dad was a rescue swimmer for the county and had to take a few dips in the river for guns.

The gun *might* be salvageable. Depending on what it is, and how long it has been packed in the mud. You would want to do a complete breakdown, cleaning and inspection before firing.

If your local mechanic has a solvent parts washer, that would get it clean. A can or 2 of Brake cleaner is good for the places a tooth brush can't reach. Then a good oiling of it.

Eh my case was I had some work done on my Heater and thats when it went missing but I can't prove any thing so I'm trying to handle it my self. Of course I'm underage so I can't really call the police and say uh hey I have a hand gun missing. I guess thats what I get....

2-3 strokes of a file on the firing pin will change it enough not to be traced. Same thing can be done with the muzzle crown :)

The thing about hi-points, if you run out of ammo, just use the piece as a brick. It is heavy enough. I had one and sold it soon after I got it.

I actually liked the hi point. I was told there were 2 different makes of them and it was the nicer one. It was a good shooting gun, but it wasn't wore out.
It wasn't very heavy either.

dirtyone55

Under my bed? Yea, Ok.

ya.... I personally lock all of my guns up unless I have them in my posession, for safety reasons of somebody who does not know what they are messing with hurting themselves or somebody taking it and it being used illegally and being traced right back to me.

Get yourself a cheaper safe and you will eliminate that problem. Not trying to be a dick about things, but it is hard to trust people anymore, and you are better off being safe than sorry.

DeckerEnt
12-07-2008, 12:13 AM
Under my bed? Yea, Ok.

A cheap push button safe with finger grooves that can be bolted to the frame, then under your bed would be cool. Just laying there for all to see, not a smart move on your part. The guy who stole it in the first place is an asshat but just "under the bed" is noplace to store a weapon.
Keith

Mista Bone
12-07-2008, 02:00 AM
Nope, my G22 is stored in a unsecured place, not under a bed, not in a dresser drawer, but "I" know where it is at.

Now, has anyone here ever traveled with a gun on vacation???? I left mine in the hotel room, did have a secured case for it. I swore I pack packed when I left to come home from Pigeon Forge. I got home and could not find it.....I SHIT A BRICK!!!!! for over an hour I tore everything apart looking for my G22.

Then I called the hotel (like a dog with its tail between it's legs) to see if they found anything "extra" in the room I left.

Nothing was reported, but the night manager asked what I might have left behind. I said a gun I cannot find in my luggage. No reports of it from the maids.....would you have reported it????

I did later that night find it, can't remember where I had it stashed, but called back to the hotel to tell them I had found it and no more worries.

Yeah I felt like a asshat.

Paul, WHO had access to your place of sleep????? Are you sharing an apartment????

If I was sharing an apartment I would have a lockbox that had a 4-5 digit code or fingerprint to unlock it.

PaulFiveOh
12-07-2008, 04:00 AM
I am sharing it with my bestfriend and we have the set of friends. It happened when we were at work I think. We had the AC unit serviced during that time

MWoods26
12-07-2008, 04:07 AM
I have to agree with bone here. I also have a gun in an "unsecure" place that "I" know where it is. If someone breaks in my house I will not be wasting any life saving time fooling with any small combo safe. Im not leaving my 1,500 dollor D.E. or any of my high dollar stuff out of my safe. but I do keep somthing where I can get to it in a hurry. *****I want to add that I DO NOT have any kids nore is there ever any kids at my house. When I have kids the time will come that even my trusty little S&W model 36 that I call "Jim Rockford" will reside in the safe with my best friend "Larry the birdman Eagle"

Mista Bone
12-07-2008, 04:32 AM
When I bought my G22, it was a "throwaway" gun, aka first I go for in an emergency, if it walked away due to a crook or the law taking it for investiagtion, I was ready.

Yeah about the kid issue.......I really don't wanna go there about a 12 gauge shotgun.

Cliff notes a kid took down a 870 Rem and pulled the trigger, the son of the owner (stoned) racked the slide and the pulled the trigger with the barrel next to his jaw......OOO 2 3/4" mag......messy.

INSANEBA
12-07-2008, 10:57 AM
I keep my 40 in an unsecured place. It's near my bed, but concealed. I keep my clip under my matress for quick loading. I do have children around the house from time to time, but they have all been taught the right and wrongs of firearms. I actually took them out and showed them exactly what happens to a melon when it's used. They were scared enough that they PROMISED to never fool with it... I keep it there, because my family ang shop are far too valuable to not be able to quickly "defend" them...
