Recomended Gear Question

I have a set of 4:10 gears that were given to me. I have been thinking about installing them in my 85. I have been reading online that putting them in a car with a manual trans is not recomened. Can anyone tell me if thats true or not. Also besides being in the box is there a way of idenifying if these are infact 4:10 gears.

Perfect gearing for a 5.0. I'd use them. I think the pinion gear will have the ratio scribed into the end of it or you could always count the teeth on the ring gear and divide by the # of teeth on the pinion.

i run a 4:10 in my 93 5 speed it does ok it really depends on what your going to do with the car. i am dropping back to a 3:55 this winter the 4:10 is limmiting me at the track.
