Battery Relocation

Hope i'm puttin this in the right forum. But, I'm lookin to move my battery to the trunk and I have a few questions. First, if I didnt want to buy a kit what gauge wire would i need. Second, which side is best I know directly over the axle just don't know which side.

pass side for the box. Four gauge wire MINIMUM. (good fine strand oxygen free copper wire, not walmart stuff)

If you run it, at the track, you will need the shut-off switch. And, it is ALWAYS a good idea, to have the battery installed, in an approved box. EVEN IF YOU DON'T RACE IT!

If you do the wiring right, you shouldn't have any problems.

on the firewall or inner fender wall

If you guys are running the standard type starter, that diagram is good.

However, if you are running a mini-starter, you'll need to change the solenoid wiring.

I make my relocation kit when I mount my batteries in the trunk. I use 1 gauge wire used for welders and solder my own ends onto it.

What's the purpose of having the kill switch and where does that get mounted?

its required for sanctioning bodies. usually put it in the back part of the car.

Let's say for some reason you total the car at the track and you're unconscious or broken. Ideally the first person at the scene will kill your electrical from the outside and that will kill hazards like fuel pump and ignition etc. Safety first.

just curious? i mounted mine on drivers rear due to the bottle on the other side. and the right rear get the most torque put to it so wouldnt you want to put it on the drivers to even things out?

The theroy is wih your weight in the drivers seat, mounting the battery in the right rear distributes the load better.

Running the ground to the body and to the engine is a good idea to help with charging and starting.

If it's going in a hatch, you need a battery box vented to the outside.
