Thoughts and Prayers for Mrs Ape..

Mrs. Ape (Kim) has opted for the warmth and glow of the rooms at Jewish hospital. All kidding aside... Kim was admitted to ICU yesterday afternoon. Alan said that she hadn't been feeling well for a couple of days and finally just couldn't take it any longer.

White blood cell count was through the roof and I know Scott told me more, but I can't remember... he'll have to help me out...

Just pray for our friends and their family. Scott and I will keep you updated...

Get well! My father had an elevated white blood cell count(30,000) about 5 weeks ago and it ended up being a staph infection that had settled in his spinal column. He had to have spinal surgery to remove the abscess. Hopefully it isn't that.

I just got back from the hospital. Kim looks good - tired but good.

They are still just sitting and doing a lot of waiting. Antibiotics are fighting the UTI and any other infection in there. The docs are looking more at Mono or another virus. Once they have that narrowed down, they will look more into the mass that they found.

As I was leaving, they were working on the transfer papers to move her out of ICU !

Scott and I will be stopping by after work.

They have pneumonia shots you can get, I did not know that. I got a flu shot about a month ago and they were giving pneumonia shots out too. I didn't get one though. I'm more of a strep throat type of girl (2-4 times a year). :rolleyes:

They have pneumonia shots you can get,There's (2) types of pneumonia Viral and Bacterial. The shots only work against Viral pneumonia by producing Antibodies against the particular virus.

The pneumonia shots are normally given to folks who are Immunodeficient or are more susceptible to diseases and have Chronic health problems. Healthy folks can normally fight off a pending infection.

A CBC will give clues to the type you're dealing with. An increased WBC count showing Segmented Neutrophils is an indicator of Bacterial infections.

A "normal" or maybe even decreased WBC with and Increased amount of Lymphocytes indicates a Viral infection.

A peripheral blood smear gives us more confirmation.

Saw her after she was moved from ICU last night. She didn't look so good - but then again that's what happens when they take you off ALL the medicines they had you on and not replace them with anything else! Needless to say, we were all a little PO'd.

Finally though, they've got her back on medication and today she's feeling much better. Nurse said that the white blood cell count had gone down but she will stay where she is for now until the infections are gone. They still have not received the test results for the cultures...

Kids are doing well. Staying with family. Alan's holding his own - as usual.

Planning on going to see her again after work - I'll update everyone then.

Here's my update - though she beat me to it!

Tonight Kim looked great! Her kids were with her and a few family members were too! The meds are finally doing their job!

Tomorrow is going to be a big day for her... hopefully getting more information and more tests done. It's time to nip this thing in the bud!

Insurance is trying to pull her out of the hospital and the docs are trying to keep her there - I'm with the docs!!!

Kids are doing well - had a hard time pulling them away this evening but they are really hanging in there!

Alan - just happy to see his wife feeling better!

I'll post more when I know more...

They still have not received the test results for the cultures.They should have preliminary results after (24)hrs and the full work-up with Susceptibilities after (72)hrs.
