View Full Version : cylinder head question
I'm in a dilemma about choosing a head. I'm stuck between Victor jr's and World products Windsor Sr's
Victor Jr:
210cc intake
2.05 intake valve
1.6 exhaust
Aluminum head
WP Windsor Sr:
200CC intake
2.02 intake valve
1.6 exhaust valve
Iron head
my big thing is, there are differences in a few ways. how big of a difference is 10CC intake port size and .02in on the intake valve? the other difference is cast iron vs aluminum.
but do you guys think its worth the extra ~500?
i plan on turning the motor at ~6500-7000. and i might go to a forced induction (blow-through setup)
Thanks
Andrew

I can't really say for sure what the differences are, but i'd be doing a search for flow bench numbers...that'll tell you everything.
does anyone know where i can get out of the box flow number to compair both heads to?
well, after doing some more reading, i came across a thread on a different forum that people were saying that
the twisted wedge heads are better than windsor sr's. and not that much more in price so thats also a candidate, so im going to send some pm's and see what i can come up with

How many cubes? The vic jr.'s will probably pull to the highest rpm of the three. They have the largest volume runner. You need to figure out now if you want to go forced ind. That way you can factor combustion chamber size/comp. ratio. I would stay alum., both can make great power. There are alot of factors to consider, not really a cut&dry issue.
its a 306
im only going to spin it to ~6800-7000rpm max. im going to be going either on spray or turbo for sure

Call Brian Tooley at Total Engine Airflow, he can start you in the right direction. I have two sets of heads from him. He does CNC porting, and I know you probably aren't up for that yet, but he can give you info on the base head you will need and one that you might want to have ported later.

here is a good website that has flow numbers for every head.

These will require different comp ratio's. Which will factor in on head choice, or different versions of the same head. N2o will like higher comp( smaller combustion chamber,58cc or so), turbo will like lower comp(so you can run more boost), 64cc or so.
It will be cheaper to make a decision on which power adder you want, before you buy heads. That way you don't spend extra money later because you chose the wrong part.
My .02
in doing the math on it, we (me and afriend) calculated it to be abotu 9.4-10.0:1cr. when im on either nitrous or a turbo application i plan on being on 110octane at minimum to prevent detonation.

I just know what works.
