I'm in the market, for a good laptop. This is for my niece, who will be attending college, next year. She has been using her Mom's old laptop and the battery will no longer hold a charge. (Plus, did I tell you it was old, as in dinosaur.)
I don't have a clue, as to what to look for. Any of you that went to (or, go to) college, chime in with your opinions.
Maggie's friend from work, told her about this one: http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspnnb_1525?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&~oid=us~en~29~inspnnb_1525_anav3~~
Seems like a decent price, with the rebate.
Money is not real important, just don't want "break the bank". :o
Any help, is greatly appreciated!

FWIW,
I have a Dell Latitude D820, and love it!
The only problem I had was me snapping one of the keys off. I had AJ (mach_u) replace it, and give it a tweek, and it's been flawless.

I have a Gateway that was way overpriced but it's LOADED with everything.... I love it. My parent's bought it for me in 06 when I graduated high school and I have had no problems at all. Last year, my mom bought another new Gateway very similar to mine and loves it as well. Both were bought at Best Buy and they're pretty perfect for what we use them for.

AJ, how does that one compare, to the Dell I linked to?
Scotty, I don't even see Latitude laptops, on their site.
Wes, are you saying you use the Dell Inspiron 1525?
Brian, she'll still be the cool kid. She drives a Mustang!

Night and day. 15" screen compared to 17", 2gigs ram to 3gigs ram, Vista Home Basic vs Vista Home Prem., 120gig hard drive vs. 250gig drive, etc. Honestly I cannot stand the Inspiron laptops. I have seen waaayyy to many fail. They are throw away laptops - good for a year or two and then they crap out on you. The latitudes are decent but generally you will have to pay a little more for them. I imagine that Toshiba won't last the week. If you are going to move I would jump all over it. ;)
