Does anyone know if it is possible to paint an engine dress up kit? They are TONS more expensive if you buy one pre-painted to match your car vs. if you buy a regular black set. Is it possible to just paint it and have it look and stay nice looking or will the paint have trouble adhering to the plastic? I was just worried it would screw up being next to the engine....

paint in the long run will start to come off... I wonder if things like that could be powder coated?

What kind of dress up kit is it and what engine is it for. Do you have a link to where I could see it. It may be able to be powder coated.

Can't find a link for the whole kit but here are a few of the components individually so you know what kinda material you are dealing with:

Well as of now its not looking good. I have a place I'm gonna call tomorrow. That is alot of money if it does not work. I wish it was possible to get a sample piece to practice on.

lol well, can't help ya out there. My bro knows some guy who does body work so maybe he'll have a clue. It's one of those things you can't really skimp on too unless you want to throw your money away and have to buy it twice.

Those look to be plastic if I am not mistaken.
I wouldn't powdercoat plastic since you have to bake it. Could deform the plastic during the curing process.
Krylon makes a paint called Fusion that is specially made for plastics.

Those parts you have listed won't get hot enough to effect the fusion paint.
The plastic is already painted.
Another option would be plastic/vinyl dye

VHT also makes a plastic paint as well

you can powder coat plastic you just have to bake it for a long time at extremely low temps i know a guy who said he could do my pony center caps ill see f he knows anything

After doing some investigating I don't think I would try to do that engine cover set. Certain plastics will hold up better than others and I would not want to chance ruining such and expensive engine cover set. Also those center caps would be iffy. The plastic is fairly thin and I'm not sure it would hold up to heat very well. If someone does have a cracked or junk center thay don't want I would come get it just to see what kind of temps it would survive.

A buddy of mone painted his fan shroud with base coat/clear coat. It seemed to stick alright. I'd say prep is the key to making it stick.
