I know the thread title is a little off, but DAMMIT, I'm pissed!
August 5, 2008 I bought a Philips SA5125 player http://shopimages.wikio.com/shop/img/2008/2/19/D1/54100281_small.jpg. I love the player, it works and sounds (used to anyway) good, and WAS easy to use.
After having this player for 103 days (and probably only used about 30 times), the battery takes a shit. It won't hold a charge for more than 1 hour turned off with no use, or about 3 minutes of listening.

I bought it at Best Buy, and they told me to more or less get bent, and that I needed to contact Philips...fine, whatever .

I contact Philips and after waiting on hold for 34 minutes (this really does wonders for someones attitude that is already "tuned up" about something), I get to talk to a customer service (using this term very loosely at this point) rep.

I go through all the formalities, and I give him all the info...model number, serial number, date and place of purchase...blah blah blah.

He then proceeds to tell me ..."Sir, I'm sorry that the device has failed, but the 90 day warranty has expired. Let me give you the web address to the Philips online store where you can purchase another device."
I asked him to slow down, and repeat what he had just said to me. He apologizes, then he repeated the same shit again. I asked him why would he think I would want to buy another one if this one died so soon? Again another "heartfelt" apology from Mr. Customer Service, and the offer to give me the website to purchase another one. At this point, I tell him I want to talk to his supervisor. He tells me "this doesn't really qualify as something to involve a supervisor." I then tell him, "I didn't ask for your opinion, I want to talk to your supervisor now!"

I talked to the supervisor (even though he tried to discourage me from doing so) after being put on hold for another 27 minutes. I get the same textbook bullshit from this fucktard! I tell the guy I'm not looking for something for nothing, I just want to be treated fairly, and that if I could pay to get the battery replaced, that would be fine. He then tells me, they don't service these AT ALL, and the only thing they service is TV's. (WTF??!! Out of all the shit Philips sells, the only thing they repair is TV's? Is that possible?)Then he offers me the website so I can PURCHASE a new one...So, I was politely told to go fuck myself, I wasn't getting shit, other than the address for customer complaints.

I guess that my next step is writing them a letter just for the sake of letting them know how I feel, because I know they aren't going to do shit about it.

Please take this type of shit into consideration before even thinking about buying a Philips product! I have a number of Philips products, but this Mp3 player was my last.
I guess it's asking too much this day and age for companies to actually take care of the customer after the sale!

Thanks for lettin' me vent!
I just get so tired of laying out coin for stuff that takes a shit WAY before it should, and these huge corporations telling you to get fucked! Damn...this shit infuriates me...and they wonder why people go and buy things, then return the broken shit in the new box with the receipt, or walk into a place with both guns blazing!

Yep. They can't even fix their own shit.

I know this sound foolish, but one would think with the big push to be more environmentally friendly, they would service this shit, rather than forcing people to huck them in the garbage. :dunno:

I guess I will see if I can get this bastard apart, and see what kind of battery is in it...can't hurt, lol...I'm already fucked, and out a player.

Most of those small MP3's are not able to be serviced. Many electronics are becoming this way. Any time you purchase an electronic device like that I have learned the hard way to buy the biggest extended warranty the distributor offers. 9 times out of 10 they just hand you a new one and chuck the old in the garbage. I went thru 3 I-pod products before realizing that the cheapest MP3's players (the ones not using a hard drive type of memory) last longer, takes less energy and withstand more abuse. I have an I-pod - (cost $350) that wont run on the battery for more than 3 hours. My $40 Walmart generac mp3 player goes all day and I can drop it off the motorcycle at 35mph, sit on it- and lose it in all sorts of odd places with no ill-effects.

Sorry to hear about your encounter hopefully your sphincter will return to normal size.

Buy another one and return your broken one the next day with the receipt.

Its what I would do.

They will just send it back for a credit.

Two brands have never let me down.

SamSung and Sony

I have yet to have a failure in any product.

I have a samsung dvd player and vhs combo it is 8 years and going strong....
The only issue is it so old it would not play burned DVDs so I bought a Sony.
I have a Samsung LCD Tv that is 2 years old.

Prior to that I had a SamSung 36 inch flat screen that lasted 7 years and a I gave away. Still working as far as I know.

My wife has a Samsung cell phone that is 3 years old no issues!!!

I popped the back off it, and I may run it down to Batteries Plus, and see if they can do anything for a battery. They are just about 2 miles away on Princeton Rd. and Ohio 747. If they can't help me, I'll check out batteries.com.
Thanks!

Mav, I agree, Samsung makes a pretty good product. I LOVE my Samsung DLP TV!

Yep...the only reason i shop at BB is for the 3 year warranty.

I bought a 30gb iPod off a guy here, and it took a crap on me the day i got it (not talking shit about him, it was probably a fluke). I got lucky and it was actually still under warranty and Apple replaced it for free so i ended up getting a brand new iPod for a used price.

Sony's having a bit of a problem with their PS3s overheating and failing or some such shit. My brother had his do it like 2 weeks out of warranty. I googled and it's a very common problem they refuse to do anything about without being paid for it.

My buddy has a first gen 80gig PS3.The first thing he bought was the aftermarket cooling fans for it.Never had any problems.

Unless the add on fans have their own power source, and not using the power source of the console, I would caution against using them. Most times the power source is taxed enough running the console (let's face it, they seldom OVER build anything), and when peak power is required for the processor, it may not get the power it requires due to the fans drawing power.

One way to get around that with a 360 is to use an old power supply on a new 360. The old PSUs could put out around 300 watts, the new ones are around 180. That leaves you 120 watts to power fans. More than enough I'd say :D

Damn Mista, I didn't know they existed until you mentioned them.
They seem to have fair prices on warranties, even for used items. Have you used them, or know anyone who has? I'm just wondering how their "real world" service is. Most places talk a good game, but first hand experiences tell the tale.
Thanks for the info!

I used them on both used laptops I bought. Dave Blundell, a "nerd" of sorts who sometimes uses Craigs Dyno for tuning suggested them.

They sent a recent email about Circuit City saying to insure with them.

The laptops I bought are IBM's, pretty sturdy to begin with. I got two years for about $80....

I know exactly how you are feeling. I purchased a samsung 46" LCD television and a samsung home theater system from circuit city this past summer under the pretense of 24 months no interests and no payments. I get a phone call from chase bank 2 weeks ago saying that I need to make a payment or they are going to send it to collections. I call them back and ask why they want me to make a payment when i have 24 months no interest and no payments. they proceed to tell me that that special has never been run and that i should contact circuit city. so i did. I was placed on hold for 17 mins. before i finally was able to speak to the manager of the store. after i tell him whats going on he says im sorry but we have never ran that special. I told him that the sales person that sold me the items told me on 3 diff occasions that was the deal that i was getting. so the manager said i cant help you let me transfer you to a person that does our financing. Im again palced on hold for 16 mins. at this point I'm way pi$$ed. the guy finally come to the phone & i tell him the problem & he says that he will see what he can do & tells me that he will call me back. I wait for 3 days to hear from this dumbass and low and behold he never calls. so i call back and ask to speak to him. after being on hold for 10 mins or so he gets to the phone and informs me that he never sent the paper work to corporate to have it reviewed. so im way steamed now. i again ask to speak to the store manager. it takes another 20 mins for him to get to the phone and he says that he will call chase and try to straighten it out and he will be in touch. he never calls me back so i get on circuit city's web site and send them an email that states what has happened and how they must have the worst customer service ever and they need to make some changes. well to this day no one from the company has emailed me back or tried to contact me in anyway. I did hear on the radio the other day that 150 cirtcuit city's are closing down b/c the company is about to go bankrupt. Thats no suprise to me b/c i know for a fact that i will never buy anything from them again. but i still have to make payments so i guess they are getting the last laugh. bastards!

Yeah, it seems no one wants to take car of the consumer. You would think with these businesses competing for everyones "scarce" dollars, they would want to help insure return business...I just don't get it.
I have looked high and low for a battery for that fucking MP3 player, and of course...no luck at all. I have sent emails to battery companies with the dimensions and makeup, and I have struck out. Either they don't have one, or they can make one for me...IF I ORDER 100+ of them.
Damn thing takes a 3 wire lead Lithium Ion Polymer 3.7v 320mAh battery 6mm thick, 25mm wide, and 34mm long. Goofy made in China bullshit.

I don't know if I could charge something that small.
