Should be 50 oz.

All 302's after 81 or 82 were 50 oz. balance

Is the balancer about an inch wide?

the only thing you have to watch is the flywheel diameter for the clutch and bellhousing you use. '86-up were 10.5 inch clutch/flywheels. '85-down were 10 inch.

I know. Flywheel... flexplate... whatever. They were all the same after 81 or 82. So if your balancer is about an inch thick you are good. Casting number on the block could also tell you roughly what year the engine/rotating assembly is.
