I saw this in the newspaper and about fell off my chair. Rent-A-Center is advertising Xbox 360s for rent to own, $25 a week for 78 weeks. That comes out to $1950, when they're only $199 brand new now. The real kicker is how high the fail rate is on the 360s...they're not likely to live as long as 78 weeks, especially considering the unit you're renting to own is probably already used. I can understand being poor, and i've rented stuff plenty of times, but damn c'mon! $2k for a $200 gaming system!? I can't believe people actually fall for this crap.

I think people see the "$25" part and flip out and go for it..

i was desparate to replace my PS2 when it died, and I called the only place in town that had them... a Rent to own... and asked if they would sell them outright, I had cash in hand, and was denied!

Those places are such a joke! I mean now you can freaking rent rims and tires! And those are ridiculous prices also! :flipoff:

Well as for Rent N Roll goes, i will say they have good prices IF you have cash to buy them out right. I bought my Kumhos there and with mounting and balancing they were cheaper than most internet sites were just to buy them.

They wouldn't sell anything to me outright either!

And how do you think they make their money? PT Barnum is right, there are fools born every minute!

And if that is the only way you can buy a xbox 360 then you should spend your time worknig a second job instead of playing video games. I wonder if their customers realize that they could take 4 weeks payments and buy one.

I made some calculations once after my brother was convinced it was a good idea to buy this way. If you finished out their payments, it came to like 300% APR lol

Their "same as cash" rate was worse.

my friend bought a laptop from a rent-to-get-fucked place, and was bitching because he paid sooo much money for it, and was to the point where he let it go back...

I tried to tell him

What is worse, esp. with issue 5 coming to vote, is people going to get a payday advance loan to pay for their R-T-O payments.

My Xbox made it 34 months until the red ring of death. It was a launch day box. Cost me nearly $500 new. $3.67/wk.

MS wants $140 to fix it. The replacement is only $200 though (by reusing the old HD on an Arcade model), and I will get another wireless controller, which is $50. Plus it takes less power and is quieter. I have a second 360 that has the newer chipset, and it does run cooler. So the original one is going in the trash. I took it apart and compared it to pics online of the new models. The GPU on my old one only had a heat sink. The new one has a slightly bigger heat sink, but also has a heat pipe going off to another heat sink hanging in mid air behind the CPU.

A PS3 is nice, to look at. If you want games, get the 360.

Why do you say that?

I have a friend (nobody on this board) that did the rent to own on a piece of shit couch (their furniture is crappy). Okay, apparently they used MY name as a reference, but failed to tell me. Anyway, after the kids massacred the couch, they quit paying on it, and then rental place was calling MY house. I was pissed.

If you don't have money for a luxury such as an xbox, don't friggin buy one. Simple as that. And I totally agree with Cameron, get a second job to pay for your "toys".

I will never ever ever ever do rent to own, on anything.

Why do you say that?

Because their game selection is weak. They basically have nothing over the 360. All of Sony's exclusive games that were hyped back when the PS3 launch occured either sucked balls, or were never released. What was that stupid ass flying dragon game that was supposed to be so bad ass, and was seriously pathetic? Plus, comparing XBox Live to what Sony has, there is no comparision.

I want it just for GTA4, and I am like a retard when it comes to operating the controller on an X-box... I just can't do it :tard:

Haha if anyone wants to "rent-to-own" my ps3, let me know ;) We never even play the stupid thing and have like ten ps3 games. We just use it to watch blu rays mostly.

That is nuts Holly, that is crazy! I would be pissed too.

Naahhh... I hate the Xbox/360 controls.

That, and the first time it did the "rings of death" I'd blow the fucker up or run it over.

When my original PS2 died, I bashed it to pieces...

I own a launch date PS2...bought it the day they were released...never had a problem out of it. But, this isn't an Xbox vs. Playstation debate so we'll save that for another thread.

I had a big flat screen tv for a while just because i was so sick of my crappy little 19'' crap box, but i let them have it back when i moved because i didn't wanna carry it up the steps and i only had a couple hundred bucks into it so it really wasn't a big loss.
