Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.

The fifth would pay $1.

The sixth would pay $3.

The seventh would pay $7.

The eighth would pay $12.

The ninth would pay $18.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve.

'Since you are all such good customers, he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20.

Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But
what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?' They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each MAN'S bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.!

And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing(100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

'I only got a dollar out of the $20, 'declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,' but he got $10!'

Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten Times more than I!'

'That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!'

'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

REVISED TO REFLECT THE OBAMA PLAN:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing, but would receive $5 each.

The fifth would pay nothing.

The sixth would pay nothing

The seventh would pay $5

The eighth would pay $10

The ninth would pay $20.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $85.

Under the obama plan I would probably pay $5. But I want to get to the point where I pay the $85. Why, because I would be a rich successful som bitch. Then I could move out of the country and let the poor take up the slack when I am gone with all my money. LOL!!!!!!

I really like that. Good perspective. McCain needs to drop a bunch of flyers of this from airplanes in all the getto's and trash holes of america so the lazy morons trying to get ours may possibly understand that Obama is a dumba$$. And their hand outs from the messiah WILL come at a cost. But if you don't have a future you tend not to look at it I guess.

1986GT... they don't care about the ethics or morality of the issue. They've all got a sense of entitlement about it. For some reason these people think they're owed.

For some reason these people think they're owed.

And we all know the exact reason. It's the same reason they're voting for Obama.

Whitey owes me this....whitey can't run the country, it takes a brotha to do it....the man just try to hold us down....

I hear it all fuggin' day. Working with sub-prime credit customers that have never paid for a thing in their life (their credit report proves it), have never held a job, and always lived off the "system". They're all Obama supporters and they all think we owe them something.

If anyone has any doubts about the racial motivation behind the majority of Obama supporters, or doubts any of the supporting stereotypes...come work in the sub-prime credit industry. Any doubts will quickly be put to rest.

Hardcore thats $120.00 dollars, original bill was $100.00! lol

That sounds about right though as far as politicians are concerned.

THATS EXACTLY RIGHT!!!

Obama wants to take EXTRA tax money and give it to the poor. It wasn't bad math, it was a more accurate example of the Obama tax plan. The "rich" will be paying the poor, simply for being poor. Usually they'd pay the poor by giving them a JOB. NO MORE JOB REQUIRED. Sit on your ass, Big Daddy Obama will take care of you, with money he took from someone else.

Assuming that the poor population out weigh the rich, wouldn't the "poor" just end up spending there "extra" money on products and services the "rich" control and run. Ultimatly recycling that cash anyway??

I'm trying to look at the bright side and be optamistic as possible. I don't particularly care for the "Redistribution of Wealth" plan, but Obama looks like the winner and we'll all have to deal with this new plan.

That's what's known as "Trickle-Up" Poverty. The poor have never driven the economy, which is part of the reason they're poor. How many poor people have ever given you a job, etc? If you lower taxes, the rich spend it. A lot of people were bitching at John Kerry for having his Gulf Stream jet etc. Not me, I was proud of him for spending his money. When rich people spend their money, it creates jobs, and jobs are an effective and ethical way to pass money from the rich to the poor. When you reduce the amount of the governments take on investment (capital gains tax), it creates more investment. Then the companies, with that extra money, create jobs.

Democrats openly admit that taxes stifle growth when it's something like tobacco products, then totally ignore the same principle related to the economy. Tax the shit out of investments, and it reduces investment just like taxing the shit out of tabacco reduces smoking.

A perfect example: Does anyone remember the Democrats crowing back in the early 90's about how the new 10% luxury tax would finally force the rich to pay "their fair share?" It ended up costing the yaught industry 7,600 jobs. The additional unemployment ended up costing the government $7M more than it even collected from the luxury tax.
