1995 3.8 Info Needed

Hey guys and gals,

I may have an opportunity to trade my 1993 Dodge Caravan for a 1995 3.8 mustang. I was never really interested with the 95' v6's until I started driving a minivan (hey the price was right and I needed a vehicle)... so I have a couple questions...

1. It is a 5 speed...It is a t5 that they put in those years right?
2. I thought I read that it is a 7.5 rearend. Is this right?
3. If it is a 7.5 what years 8.8 will bolt in?
4. Will a 351 windsor bolt in (with swap mounts) onto the stock k member
5. How hard to put on a new convertable top? Or who does them??

Yes a t-5, yes 7.5 with 2.73 gears, and yes 8.8 will bolt in. Not sure about the other questions. I believe the 94-95 3.8s had head gasket problems.

94 95 use the 5.0 motor mounts you can put a 351 realatively easy! you can use 94-2004 8.8 rearend 99-04 are wider about 1 inch but line up alot better with the rear body panels you won't have that sunk in rear wheel look! the T5 is a week t5 if doing a 351 swap you will need a better trans!

The headgasket recall has been expired for a few years. The convertible top is a little more than most hobbiests are willing to undertake. Even ford dealers use upholstery shops for warranty convertible tops (probably cause the techs don't want to do them) and because they can become a huge pain in the ass if your in a hurry. If you have all the time in the world you can try it yourself- but many shops will assess a surcharge to take care of a customers half-done project. A top for an SN95 car will run somewhere between $500-$1800. In this area cheaper is not better.

I used to use a shop on N Gilmore Rd in Fairfield behind Fairfield High school next to Fox towing. It is called shnitzers (sp?). He does great work (30 years experience)and is reasonably priced. He is semi retired so he doesn't do a lot of volume, or speedy work. No listing in yellow pages, stopping by is better. Good luck.
