i had picked up an x cam recently and was planning on running it in my 306, but my question is.. is it a strictly roller cam or is it a strictly flat tappet cam?

i have a b303 in my 302 and its using the oem hydraulic rollers.

the 306 block isnt set up for a hydraulic lifter. i was going to get a set of comp solid rollers and go that way.

just wanted to ask for others opinion before i eat a cam for putting the wrong lifter in.

thanks
Andrew

The "X" cam is a hydraulic roller cam. If you are currently using a B303, the x-cam will work as long as you have piston to valve clearance.

its not going in my 302. i've got a 306 that im going to be putting in the car. its got a set of speed pro pistons with valve reliefs.

im thinking about putting the e7's that are on my 302 on it and claying the head just to make sure before i put the victor jr heads on and have to replace headgaskets and stuff if it has to come apart

You should always check, but i'm running an X with stock pistons right now and 1.94 valves with no clearance issues. If you have milled down heads or something like that then you may not have clearance.

the e7 heads are unchanged when it comes to deck height, the only thing that was modified was the ports on intake and exhaust and the bowl was cleaned up some. becides that they are unchanged.

i used a straight piece of metal to check for warpage and they were straight.

these heads arent going to be on long if i put the e7 heads on, im going to go with a victor head and the valves on them are 2.050/1.6
