You'd have to cc the chambers to get an idea of what the new compression would be. I don't personally think they're worth the trouble. You can make good power with gt40's or P's for pretty cheap. 69 windsor heads might be a good option for cheap too, from what I understand they are the same casting as the gt40's. At least I was told that about 15 yrs ago.

If you decide not you use them. Please PM me, I would like to have them for a 289 block I have.

If they're real 289 HIPO heads (screw in studs, valve spring seat cups, etc), you could probably sell them for a good bit and buy some aluminum or GT40/GT40P heads that would flow much better. I think the chambers on 289 HIPOs are something like 48 cc. You might need different length pushrods as well.

yeah they are true 289 hipo heads, I thought it was 54cc? so pretty much bad ideal to put them on? when i can get some gt40 and they will make more power.

O and i will let ya know about me not needing them if i dont use them, would you want them bare or with valve ect, in them?

They'll give you more compression than P heads but i believe the Ps will out flow them without porting.

I read an article on this about 8 years ago. I was building my first 5.0 motor with a haynes manual. hehe. The article said bolting a set of 289 hipo's on a 302 would give you 10:1 compression (obviously depending on pistons). So I found a free set, had napa redo them for $200.00 and that motor hauled some pretty good ass. with a torquer intake, cam and lifter combo from jegs. An old holley and stock 5.0 headers. My old stripped coupe went 13.3 with a stock 2.73 and 26x10.5 M/T ET Streets. I launched it at 6000 rpm and it almost stalled. LMAO. I learned a highway gear and slicks aren't a good combo. Still flew.

If they are free, I say give them a shot. You could do a mild sandroll and pick up some flow. You would still need to spend a little money on them, valve job, springs, etc.
