Has anyone heard of any problems or failures from boring the Teksid block .020 over? I'm about to purchase a rotating assembly and am hearing different things from different manufacturers regarding this.

IMO the best thing to do with a Teksid block is to big bore it. I don't see any problems with .020 over, more than .030 scares me. If you plan to throw boost at it I wouldn't bore it at all.

There are plenty of people who have bored them .020 over with no problems. I don't really see any problems with it. Any bigger though and you will start to run in to issues. The big bore idea is a great one but its very expensive to build.

Chris, .020 is safe and you can still throw boost at it with no worrys.

I'd love to go big bore, however I've priced the Darton sleeves and machining and it's looking like well over $2000 over and above the rotating assembly. I'd seen on ModFords a thread about FRPP offering BB sleeves much cheaper, at $50 each, but alas it seems to not be true.

I've been trying to do my homework and bouncing back and forth between MMR's or Livernois' stroker rotating assembly. Livernois told me that the .020 over would cause engine failure withing 40K.

Livernois claims their strength is their exclusive Mahle piston with their custom ringstack which is better suited to stroker motors. However, they are not available in flattops so I'd have to drop to a 5cc dish. That'll give me a compression ratio of 10.5:1, which means I'll be giving up .5:1 of compression over flattops. This seems to be questionable however because other reps at Livernois say that the ringstack is the same on the 5cc and the flattop piston. Livernois rates their assembly to 1000hp which I will be nowhere near.

MMR claims that Livernois' weekness is their custom Mahle piston (ironically). They say that Mahle's alloy compound M124S aluminum is inferior to the 2618 used by everyone else. MMR's assembly is rated to 900, which is also nowhere near where I'll end up.

The difference in price is only $80, in favor of the MMR.

Any opinions?

Do your homework on MMR. Their services seems to be hit or miss at times. Maybe check out modular performance as well.

.040 over seems to be working just fine for me. You can go a little bit bigger too if you like ;)

I'm not ordering an engine, just the stroker kit. I'm getting a donor teksid block and heads from a MkVIII for $175.

Gotcha. You should look at other options as well, like Probe and Eagle. They both make nice parts and can be had locally. I can't imagine its cheap to ship a rotating assembly.

Shipping is $45. Tax is at least $120. Livernois also agreed to drop $100 off their sale price. That's hard to beat.

You bet. Along with 2 sets of B heads, (one with Cobra cams, one with Mk VIII cams) and the stock Cobra crank. I don't know what prices will be until I get that far along. Oh, there will be a Mk VIII intake also. Does anyone ever use those things?

MarkVIII heads and intakes are about worthless. I have a set here I have offered to numerous people at scrap value. At least it is all aluminum....

The head is the same as a Cobra head isn't it? I've got complete B heads, the complete heads on my car, and a set of Lincoln B heads. If that's the case, I'll build the Lincoln head and sell the stock Cobra heads.

The lincoln heads are the same but the cams are different, but no one has any love for the b heads.

Have you guys seen the prototypes for the Sullivan B head intake?

The 16 intake runners and placement of the fuel rails allows you to install injectors on all 16 ports. I read that initial testing was very promising.

If you want a spare set I'll be at thornhill tomorrow. They are worth about $50 in scrap, that is all I want for them.

I picked up these heads not long ago. I'm curious, are these off 2 different cars or something? Or is this the way they're supposed to be?

A. Cam chain tensioner is different from one side to the other.
B. The offset on the smaller cam sprocket is different

lol... I'll post some pics tomorrow. I got Livernois' rotating stroker assembly. It's a Kellog stroker crank, Manely H-beam rods with ARP 2000 bolts, and Mahle 5cc dish pistons. Pistons are good for 10.8:1 with a .030 head gasket. Also got Clevite main bearings. The assembly is rated to 1000hp. I paid barely over $2k shipped to my front door.

According to Livernois, none of these parts are off-the-shelf parts from any of the abolve manufacturers. They're Livernois design. lol... I hope that's a good thing.

Oh, and I finally got the Mark 8 longblock out of the car, but I haven't been able to pick it up yet.

Oil pan is shot. The yard, I guess to keep the oil from draining on the ground, punches holes in the oil pans to drain the oil. You're welcome to the pickup tube though.

I did get it home today. Anyone have transmission bolts to bolt it up to the engine stand? I'm a dumbass and left them layin on the ground at the junkyard.

Transmission bolts won't be long enough, you'll need some longer bolts to put it on the engine stand.

I've read a article about their rotating assy. and yes they are supposed to be their design. From what I remember it got one hell of a write up. I'll try to find the article.

I will catch you at the track, they have to match the pan. Is the pan completely destroyed, I could weld it possibly.

I could probably fix it but it sounds liek I better just put my tbird pan back on. I won't be racing until the motor swap is complete. The oil consumption became excessive.

Now for a question. I was sticking with B heads beacuse it's what I have, and there was always the thought of possibly boosting down the road. Somehow, I doubt I end up going with boost, probably because of the money. So, that being said... should I go with C heads? I don't see many C heads listed for sale, and don't even know what kinda price they sell for. I have in my garage now 2 sets of Mark 8 B heads, and 2 sets of Cobra B heads.

What would you do and why?
