I keep getting mixed info on this...so just to clarify in my own head, can you run a Twisted Wedge head on a stock 302 with stock pistons without notching the pistons? If so, exactly which version of the heads can you use? I keep seeing pistons that have duel valve reliefs where they have a second set of reliefs for the TW heads since the intake valve is turned upwards...so how does that work on a stock piston?

Yes you can as long as it's not a huge cam...I ran a 218-228 544-544 with twistedwedge(trackheats) and stock botom end.

i just put a set on my 302 last week, used the tfs stg2 cam 224-232@.050 and 542-563 lift.i did retard it 4* for clearance reasons.

Damn, and you didn't notch them or anything? That's a crapload of lift and durration for stock valve reliefs.

So is the general opinion that these are the raciest heads you can use on a stock 302? I'm pretty sure they're the largest intake valve you can run with stock pistons.

TFS claims that you can run a .540 lift cam without requiring any special notching of stock pistons. The special trick flow valve notches in the various piston manufacturers are for upwards of .600 lift. You should be fine if you are sane with your cam selection.

nope no notches, its is big as you can go. the cam sounds good and pulls to 6000+rpm no prob.

I think they are a great all around head...I still run them on my cobra with a home port job and the same cam specs I posted above...you have room to grow with them.

Damn man, considering you're running 9s on them and i'm still in the 12s, i'd say i have LOTS of growing room..lol. I eventually want a really simple low budget engine that'll go 11s without breaking the bank. I figure if i can pull low 12s with the heads/cam i have now, maybe i can get some aftermarket heads with smaller chambers for a little extra compression and a better cam and hopefully hit 11s with a stock short block.

mine are untouched on a 331 stroker ... its a good head to grow with ... they definitely need a good port job if you put them on the 331/347's ... untouched i peaked 357 to the wheels ... the stock springs pulled to 6400 rpms ... im hoping BES can work some magic on them to get 400+ to the wheels over winter time ...

So what are you running with them on the 331? What's the rest of the combo look like?

Is it out of the question to think i can run 11s on a production, unrebuilt 302 short block with these (or similar?) heads and a well matched cam and intake?

David I'm pretty sure Rick is running 11.50s on his combo, I believe he has the trick flow Track heat intake and a custom grind cam.

if you do your homework i think 11s are possible with the trick flow heads ... there are people out there running 11.90's with p heads (12seclx) for example ...

i just got rid of the track heat intake for the victor 5.0, made 6 more horses to the wheels, but picked up 500 rpms ... i was trapping close to 118 today, so im guessing it was worth a tenth ...

i need my damn heads ported so i can squeeze out a 10 ...

Back in 2002, I went an 11.90 at 99mph(trying not to break out), with a stock bottom end 302, f-cam, and performer rpm intake, holley 650, and 4.10 gears. This was with TW heads.
