so a project thread is in order for my new toy.
wont be that big of a project to start but in the end. im sure it will be. started talking with my dad and he suggested 5 lugging it and 5 speed swap this winter/spring  so. looks like 5 lugging it is first on the to do list this winter.

but for now i picked up my other set of tires from storage. set of turbines with road race tires on the. ill be mounting the other tires on them from the wheels that are on the car.

so a few starter pics.

how i bought it.

Ryan i hate to say it, but thats a step up from the 88. I know you worked your ass off on it but the 89 is a damn good car for what you paid for it. Already has mass air too! Just think what you can do with this car with the same time and effort you spent on the 88! Good Luck, Good find!

its a whole new rear end with ford racing 3.73's that. put the 5 lug axles in. very simple to do. pulled the brake lines off new rear end becasue they were pinched. swaping everything over.
paid 100 bucks for ranger axles. perfect shape. brand new drums. and 2 brand new 235/50/17 tires.

well i need to track down some new lower controlling arm bolts. went to napa..nothing..ford. guy didnt even know what i was talking about with "lower controlling arm hardware" dumb people..lol.

any idea where i can look? i was thinking hardware store. on the bolt it says 10.9..but these are metric? so as long as i get a 8 up grade bolt then i would be fine right?

so in mean time i cleaned it up some...

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t302/88Mustang302/5lugswap059.jpg

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t302/88Mustang302/5lugswap060.jpg

added the fulid/friction modifer and got the diff cover on. now if i could find my 11MM open end wrench i would put the brake lines on the new rear end but it missing in action at the moment.

(stripped) and of course. ****ing stiped the stud! lug wont come off. i put a huge damn nick in the paint because i was frustrated and now im just pissed. time to call it a night.

any tips how to get it off? i put pressure behide it but it dose nothing :fuss:

DeckerEnt
11-12-2008, 12:50 AM
If you know you have to replace the stud and all, put a breaker bar on it and heave. Try to break the lug nut off. If it doesn't break off, it may break loose. Then it is just getting a new stud for it.

yes. no dust caps. i could step up to a 1/2 inch spacer it it would clear without modifying the center caps. but with the 1/2 inch spacers they rubbed with the wheels turned just slightly. so i stayed with 1/4 spacers and modified the center caps to clear.

already broken in. the ONLY thing i have bought new for this car is the Catless X pipe since its the only thing i couldnt find for sale lol.

there 2 chambers flowmaster off a Mach 1. i paid 30 bucks for them and they already had flow tubes and turn downs welded on. i think there the detal series and not the the orginal 40's. either way im happy with it becasue i was expecting it to be ALOT louder but im happy with it. after some tail pipes are on it it will be a little quiter but even more so deep i believe but im not worrying about them till i find some 2 1/2 inch tail pipes for it.

I do however notice that it doesnt have the EGR hole, so since you wont have functioning egr you might as well just take all the crap outa the engine bay to make it look a little cleaner.. thats what I did. Idk if you still have the smog pump crap but Im sure you dont need that either lol.

I never did understand why people ran smog pump delete pulleys? The whole point is to remove weight and drag off the drive line belt, so why put another pulley back on there(even though it is just a free moving pulley). I would just run a shorter belt and don't put anything back on there to replace the smog pump. Much cleaner looking IMO with it all the way gone and nothing there at all.

When you looking at buying heads? I have some very nice GT40P heads that were ported and worked by Mike Bell at Dayton 5.0. Brand new, bigger valves, stronger valve springs. Never even been bolted on since all the work was done. The bill was over $1100, but that was also with Mike port matching the explorer manifold.

ok i dont know if i have said what ive all got now in this thread or not but here is a copy of my post from another site.
been a while since i updated the thread. anyways new parts are always fun!!!

Explorer upper and lower. being blasted and powder coated right now
Sn95 front brakes.
Ford Motorsports lowering springs. sportlines are nice but just way to low for my driveway and i rufuse to park this on the street every night.

so far the sn95 brakes are on. put them on today and they went on no problem, got my aliment fixed after i sat and looked at it for a hour and had a few drinks and relived some strees. now taking it all back apart pulling the sportlines out then going to get the ford motorsports springs tomm. pretty sure there B springs. not postive though.

pics in a few, uploading.

( it was fubberd in the front end )
anyways. the back is all bondo in. waiting for that to set up then ill put some bondo on the top side. then it will be time to go to work. ( in about 15 mins for me ) then when back from work another, some sanding and then a new pic. anyway. teaser pic.

this is where it sits right now. just got to put the thermostat in, re locate the ACT sensor and extend the wires, put the distributer back in and do the firing order..and i think thats it  and im going to put my new exhaust tips on it. ( looks to plain to me with them dumped. sounds good though!!)
also not sure how i feel about the a/c compressor black. so i think im going to get some silver and do all the accessories in silver. also just did a quick few coats on valve covers to last for the summer then this winter when i tear down to do a F cam and gt40 heads ill pick up some "finned" powerd by ford or something like that for it. also the red vacum caps. its what i had laying around for right now. ill get black ones later on. ( it will be my first drive to the parts store with it :D SOON!)

cell phone pics so everything looks ****ty.

take out the number 1 plug on the drivers side and stick a screw driver in there, turn the motor over with a breaker bar until you get it to TDC, Point your ignition rotor button toward the back of the motor by removing the Dist. and adjusting it. throw it together and see if it fires, if not it's 180 out. repeat process. :bigthumb

Until you find a pointer atleast :D

Ryan218

Why aren't you going to drive it?

in the process of switching the insurance on both mustang to hagerty. 86 would be full coverage at 244 a year and 3,000 mile limit a year and insured for 10,000 if anything ever happens to it.
89 would be like 244 a year as well for 3,000 miles and insured for 10,000 if anything ever happened to it as well.

since the cut off is 1986 an underwriter or something like that has to"approve" my car as being ok to go through them and thats what were waiting. on. my dad submitted the paper work today

oh and also. it will be cammed soon. :D but im thinking im going to hold off till after the cruise in to do that so that its still able to be driven to there lol. plus i want to drive it some with the gears, upper and lower, full exhaust and all the other little crap ive done first, then see how the cam makes it feel.

ok so a brief little blog. lol.

i love this car =] forgot how much i missed it. its running great. one bad thing is. god damn does it have some wheel hop now! i figure probably because of lack there of quad shocks. with it being lowered how it is it rides surprisingly smooth. stiff but not by any means like rattle your bones stiff. it stays planted if its put through a corner.( although the wheels rub really bad when turned =[ ) and the cup holders. there great lol. i have a place to sit my phone now when its charging instead of flying across the seat! and also i can out a drink there now without it doing the same thing!

i picked up another center console so I'm going to get some cup holders again and make another one.
