anyway. i want a min of 300 rwhp by the end of this summer so ive been collection some more parts. hey why not  so far ive got a cam. looking for a set of GT40 heads. then the expensive piece which may take me till end of the year to get will be Vortech S-trim, or an older paxton unit if i come across a really good deal. i know that will put me a little over 300 at 5 lbs but i gotta keep it mild till im 18 and can put the man peddle in this thing! i know the aod will not like this car after the cam in installed and i find a set of heads for it. im just going to hold off on putting the cam and heads are instaled. im waiting till i find a set of heads and get a double roller timing chain for it and some 1.6 RR till i put it all in. been trying to find a set of crane 1.6 RR but having no such luck.

the cam is some what mild in lift but will work really well with boost.

anywho. the car feels slow to me :( aods suck. lol.

timming was horrifically off. 20-25* base timing. ( no wonder it was no good and ran like shit ) timming is set at 12* now. by pass is on the water pump and is not kincked like it was. now it runs cooooool. went and got my auto meter sending unit.
have some vids of it from last weekend. now if shane would ever get out of his woman's ass he can come and put the vids on my computer. ( better be doing it tomm morning like her said or imma beat him over the head with a torque wrech!!!! )

tomm im going to take it for a few hour cruise since i dont have to work and i got the extra money to do so. get some picstures of it and such. and have a good time. gotta say, ive been in a shit mood the past week, getting my cars fixed and driving for the first time running right made me smile. laying some rubber is fun. ha. also now this makes me want to get a set of heads like now and throw the cam and gt 40 heads on! if only i could find a set like both of my budies did at the junkyard. to gt40 explorers were at the junkyard and i missed out!!! i think ill go there tomm too!!!

wanna go with sean? if so give me a call around 3:30.

it will be. tore the motor down last night with seans help. thanks bud. gonna wait to pull the heads till there ready to go off to the machine shop. but the motor was damn clean on the inside. no build up. just oil. onl problem is one intake bolt snapped in the head. and of course it was the last one. we tried heating it up and i cant get it out. so im just going to have the machine shop deal with it becasue i dont want to mess the head up.

Looks great! Remember to go to Ford and pick up the oil filter adaptor for the new explorer block!!!

You cant put a regular FL1A oil filter on those engines! You need a HUGE allen key to put the adapter in the motor, and it requires a little heat and some red lock-tite

BTW, why do you need a welder or a trailer?

I'll answer that for him, lol, there's some rust in the engine bay that he needs to take care of, but I'm PRETTY sure that he's got someone lined up to do the job now.

wasent even caused by rust. when i bought the car the strut towers were perfect. took it to 42 once and took it down the track 2 times. i dont see how that would of caused it but it baffles me. i was just surfact rust on it. it split the rail on the drivers side.. weird shit.

front from an 04 explorer.

fill those holes lol .. i think i counted 100 lol

at this point i dont have the time. i want the car done for the end of the year cruise and if i start filling engine bay holes its never going to be ready in time.

i can now see im an idiot. the place that painted the car back in 01 sprayed rubber under coating over the rusty frame rail on the driver side and did a hillby repair. its really bad the more i dug into it. bad enough to where a few hard lauches at the track with the new motor and it wouldnt suprise me if the k-member wouldnt of ripped away from the car. the passenger side is perfect. of course thats what happen when a car sits under a car port for 90% of its life with the passenger side to the house and drive side exposed. right now. i really dont know what to do.

to fix it im going to have to drop the k-member and get it out of the way. let the old man bitching start. he is already up my ass about this. im renting a storage unit or something this winter. im tired of this.

DeckerEnt
07-17-2009, 07:05 PM
Grind out the rust and undercoating, and just weld plates over the areas inside and out. I went to the extreme on mine and had to replace the entire frame rail. You probably can get by with plates. Good luck with it!

Ryan218
07-18-2009, 02:00 AM
going to end up grinding it. then cut out the bad section. about a foot worth. then sand blasting the inside of the rails to see of the bottom is rotted out. which i already know a small spot is right by the damn k member. which means its gonna have to come out. which means another aliment will have to be done. which means. this car isnt going to see the road again till 2010. fml

Honestly, if you just took the K-member out by unbolting it after taking out the springs then in theory you should be able to put it back together without an alignment.

Oh, and used parts rule for building a car on a budget... you should see the mounds of parts I have for my '88 :D

DeckerEnt
07-23-2009, 01:49 PM
Before you unbolt the k member, mark it in a few spots. That way it will go back exactly in the same place. As long as you don't turn the tie rods or anything, you should be good! Good luck with it.

Seriously??? On a car with 48K??? You've got to be nuts?!?!?!

I've seen cars like that and worse repaired to better than new condition with just a little work and some material...

Just go look here:

http://www.stangbangerz.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34287

Ryan's car is a gorgeous fox vert, go look at the cars in the links I posted on his part-out thread...

It's a lot easier than it looks. The shock towers and the fender aprons will stay put when the rails are gone. Simply drill out the spot welds on the rails, find a set of rust free rails (it's easier than you think) Split them off the car, then tack them in place, line up your crossmember (using the rear bolt holes as a guide) then finish welding it up. I've done it to 1 car, I'll be doing it to 3 more in the next few months. I'll do a complete write up on frame rail replacement 101 here in a few weeks when I work on Steves LX's wifes coupe...

It's not worth killing a car that good looking especially when he's gotten that far on it... why not go a little further?

when people ask what you've done to it, you can tell em you replaced the front rails they won't know what to say! Just ask Keith Decker!

DeckerEnt
07-29-2009, 03:19 PM
Ryan, you can't junk it. You have too much blood sweat and tears in it! If I can do to mine what I did and not push it out in front of a truck, then you can fix yours. If you can't find rust free frame rails, then use 2"x3" tube. Fits in perfectly!!!
Oh, tannerite could take care of that TV for you.
