Theres a wire that goes into the colum connector that isnt clipped in from the factory. Sometimes it works its way out. I had this on my 88 when I pulled the dash and a couple others had it too. I dont remember which wire it was (color) but it feeds power to the switch.

What about the flasher, itself. There is a separate flasher, that operates the hazard lights.

There are 2 seperate flashers, one for the hazard lights and one for the turn signals. Also, check the grounds behind the headlights.

Tony, on my '89, there is a flasher in the fuse panel and one mounted up behind the gauge cluster, to the left of the steering column. I don't know for sure, which is which. Some models have one behind the glove box and some have one, on the back side of the fuse panel. I guess you'll have to look around for it.
