Help someone stole my garage door opener remote

Someone must have taken it out of my car when it was unlocked. Is there anything I can do to prevent them getting in short of replacing my garage door opener?

Change the hardware code on your motor and then buy a new remote. Just google to find the manual.

If you have another remote, you should be able to change the frequency on it. Most newer openers have this feature. We lost one to mom's garage and reprogrammed the other three.

Just flip one of the dipswitches....that changes the code....you can buy a new remote (even on ebay) and reprogram it yourslf. Some automatically reprogram, some you have to match switch settings

It all depends on the opener. Most new ones have no DIP switches, since that code never changes. The new ones roll codes. If it's a Craftsman or Liftmaster, look on the back of the opener, there is a red button. It says how to clear it, I think you hold it for about 5 seconds and the light flashes. Then just re-accept the openers you still have- push the red button, then the opener button and the light will flash showing it's accepted that opener.

well if you pull the handle then anyone can just pull up and open the door. I'd say to just unplug it until you are able to reprogram the remotes, this way the door is still locked shut and then the garage door opener doesn't have power to it to open the door.. just my .02

overhead door company in nky has remotes that will most likey work with your opener, unless it's from sears. and changing the codes is easy , just ask them how. overhead company has all the parts you need, i've had at work the doors and springs replaced on the major doors 10-15 times from ppl running into them, and overhead was there to fix it and they did a nice job.

My craftsman allows you to clear all the codes then set up new remotes.

Thanks for the help guys....I locked it by hand last night and today when I left. Called overhead up this way and they hooked me up with a new remote and how to reprogram so the thievin' asshat cannot get in.
