very nice, like how you smoothed firewall ect, looks very clean, i know that takes a ton of time, worst thing i hate doing with body work is sanding and more sanding lol, prolly reason i got out of the business:D

thanks...yeah i cut that 1" body seam out & ran a bead all the way across...the only holes in the entire compartment now is for the throttle cable/ steering shaft / master cylinder.

what would any of you body guys charge to do this???...i got 2 quotes before & am just curious how out of line they were

i've been out of bus so long, but i would assume 1-2k was prolly the going bids.. not sure what kinda time was involved but figure however many hours you have in it.. at 40-60 bucks an hour (this is talking shop charge not side job price) and i would say thats about right. Im assuming you have at least 40 hours in it, so thats 1600 on low end. Prolly guessing more like 100 hours if you dont have alot of practice. Im also tired too lol so not thinking clearly resting before more port work.. body work price always seems out of line till people really see the time involved is major cost. Current going resto on rotisserie of a classic is averaging 80-100k in the industry, complete of course and show car finish at that but its steep, plated might be able to chime in with a more accurate realistic

$4200 & $5000 "shop bids" @50 an hour...

im well over 100 hours right now... with $475 in material alone....(wire, gas, thinner, sand paper, primer, paint)

Yah material isnt cheap but its the labor that eats ya up.. so yah like i said 100 hours x 50 = 5k lol so sadly they werent trying to screw you, still looks great none the less :)

thinner the better, but bondo can withstand thicker small spots (dings, plug welds, patches ect) rule of thumb 1/4inch or less, we use to work on aluminum buses (no welding, we just slapped it on as thick as need be usually held up fine till next time they crashed them lol) next to putting whole side panel's in not much else could be done. i think the one they creased in side with a fork lift i ended up with damn near half inch. But long term longevity thinner the better.

ps... what color you gonna paint it? body color or something different? solid/spatter paint?

its not near as thick as you think....

by the time it is all 100% shaped & sanded before primer... there was metal visible everywhere...

with all that umtr $$ i vote you buy the garage's supply of micro fiber cloths, carb & choke cleaner & tuff stuff for the rest of the year...:lol:;)

I know, I know....where do you draw the line on this stuff...

I started thinking...hmm i have x amount of cash tied up into this piece....do i really want to look at this nasty swiss cheese engine compartment everytime i pull the hood off....

Even though this car is an orig 28,000 mile garage kept car...with it being black, it shows every imperfection in paint it has taken on over the past 15 years...not to mention some minor battle wounds "light scratches etc" it has taken on with the build process. Believe me...I want to spend the money to have the thing brought back to day 1 off the assembly line paint condition but am going to have to bite my tounge for a little while before dropping $6-7K on that venture....

I originally never would have guessed either...but until you do it, you will not see the work involved....i found myself cussing every nite saying to myself "how did i get myself involved in this shit"...

Recomendation to everyone...."be patient & buy a turn key car you like before taking on the headaches with a build".....unless you are one that needs the pride factor that you did it all....

If I could go back to 2005, I would have never touched this car & would be in it for a 1/4 of what I am now still running 10's.."only with parts that could break next run"

Just wait till you make your first pass though, all those long hateful nights will be forgotten. It will be worth it. Then you just have to play with it and get it where you want it.... :)
