I was curious which members have a bad ass S197. What are the modifications, 1/4 times, hp/tq numbers, how much time and money is invested, is it built for 1/4, autocross, show car or just a all around bad ass street car? Are you happy with your mods or would you go a different route? What are your next mods? I'm looking for street vehicles only. I'm not interested in race only vehicles. So if your car can't do a 100 mile trip easily please don't post. Cars do not have to have high horse power numbers or thousands of dollars invested to qualify for this thread. I would like to see who is lurking around and most importantly I would like to use this thread for informational purposes for those interested in modifying their S197. Thank you for your time and effort.

Please post pictures with your information!

Im trying to get super car performance from my Mustang. I know its hard to do but I'm trying. The car is built for all around performance. So far I have $25K invested in modifiactions and a years worth of work. Mods are Polished Kenne Bell 2.6L with 8 rib kit, intercooler, 60 lb. injectors, Kenne Bell Boost a Pump, Mafia, Kooks Long tubes, Kooks X-Pipes with cats, Magna flow cat back exhaust, Spyder shaft aluminum driveshaft, FR 3:73 gears, Shelby wheels, Toyo Proxes 4 295's in back and 275's up front, and Eibach Pro kit springs. Car made 487 RWHP/451 RWTQ with 10 lb. pulley. Future mods are built 302 stroker, (undecided) 150 hp NOS kit, up graded fuel system, 6 spd, big brake kit, some wieght reduction, and to finish it off full 1G suspension kit. I want the car to have 650 rwhp with out nitrous and capable of pulling 1 G on the skid pad. My most noticable mods was 3.73 gears and aluminum driveshaft. Both were installed together. I dont have 1/4 times because my tune isnt dialed in yet. The car pushed you into the seat through all 5 gears and can spin sideways in 3rd at 90 mph and the eibach springs handle very well but Im still not happy with it yet.

I don't have any pics handy on this PC but here we go.

I've got over $30k invested in mods on the car. It's gone through a bunch of changes trying to get the supporting mods where I want them before installing the F1A Procharger on the car. The current iteration of mods consists of:

JLT Intake
Mac 1 3/4 longtubes
Mac O/R Prochamber
CMCP deletes
E85 Tune by Dayton Performance
TR6060 6 speed (was formerly Viper Spec T56)
Spec Stage 3+ with low pedal pressure option
Spec Aluminum Flywheel
Detroit Tru-Trac Diff
4.30 Gears
Lower control arms
BMR Extreme Ant-Roll Bar
BMR K-member
BMR A-arms
BMR radiator support/front swaybar delete
Greg Weld Skinnies
Weld XP 15x9 rears with 275/50/15 Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials

So far the best the car has gone with the T56 and no skinnies up front is a 12.85@106.6mph. I hope to improve on that before dropping the new motor in. I've added skinnies up front and switched to the TR6060 which has a 2.97 1st gear vs. a 2.66 1st on the T56. This should hopefully let me improve on the 1.73 best ever 60' time so far.

I have a 302 stroker being built by Dayton Performance and they are also porting a set of heads that will have oversized valves and custom blower cams with VCT eliminated.

Waiting in the wings to support that are:
Fore Precision Billet Triple Pump Hat with 3 GT(40) pumps, upgraded lines, Fore 3v Fuel rails, MDM Mega Driver FPDM, and a Procharger F1A kit with race intercooler and polished blower. I am going to eventually be running 120 or 160lb injectors to support the car running on E85, along with the injectors will have to go an injector driver since the factory ECU can't run low impedance injectors.

The end goal is ~800rwhp and whatever ET's I can muster trying to put that to the ground with drag radials and the 6 speed. I want to be able to drive to and from the track and only have to worry about changing air pressure in the tires, run the number, re-inflate and head home.

Thats a hell of a build! I almost went with the Procharger but chose the KB for the look and instant power. How much is Dayton 5.0 charging you for your long block?

I'd have to dig up all the receipts as I've been piecing together all the parts a little at a time. The most expensive single purchase for the motor so far has been the CP pistons. I had a custom set made for the stroker shortblock. They are sexy to look at and are designed with valve reliefs for up to 0.600" lift cams. Honestly I used to have a spreadsheet with every part that I bought, itemized even separating labor from parts cost, gas, car washes, ect. The numbers started to get so high that I decided to stop counting because I could put one hell of a down payment on a house!

UDPs,delete plates,4.10,LCAs,UCA,panhard bar, axle brace,CAI. Ran a 12.74 N/A,shooting for 12.50 N/A this year. 100 sot made 386/528 to the wheels. Best nitrous has been 12.01 now (my 26" DRs are killing me) shooting for an 11.70 this year. Future mods are a forged bottom end, 6060 tranny, Powerhouse 70mm single turbo, 6 point cage once the car is paid off.

You have 528 rwtq? You might be buying a short block before you think. Who knows that could be a good thing. How much of a difference did you see with delete plates and the panhard bar? I would like to see some pics.

I run a pretty safe tune and run the nitrous occasionaly. I am awaiting the 3v aluminator. The delete plates cost me about 1.5 mpg. It seems to pull a little harder up top. On FI it maybe worth it, not on a NA car IMO. The panhard bar lets me center the rear axle, needed when lowered.

I picked up about 8-10 rwhp and rwtq with delete plates. I lost about 1mpg, worth it for a free mod IMO. I had a set of delete plates made from my stockers.

Most of it was done by MD. My car was down there off and on for about 2 months and your car was there the whole time. How many miles do you have on your car? 50 lol? I am dropping it off again next Monday so Ken can mees with the tune a little bit. If you dont mind I would like to get together and compare the performance of the whipple to the KB? That is if you ever pick up your car. I would like to see the differences between the two.

Delete plates are just under the intake manifold. Stock ones restrict alot of air flow. Adding slighted ported ones or after market ones generally add around 10 to 15 hp.

That caused it to hesitate everytime I shifted and to sputter and misfire when I shift into 3rd gear. The car is running better now but not completely. Also I think a full roush kit would really look bad ass on your car. Maybe a P51 clone.

forgeline are the wheels , got them last week but the paint job on them was wrong so MD sent them back , the brake install cant be done until the rims come back cause they are brembo 14in rotors in front and 13 in rotors in back , and require 19 in or better rims to put on , and the oil pan they put on and the metco fuel rails still need to be added. i hope it gets done shortly im getting anxious to drive it .

I had a problem with the tune and didnt want to risk blowing the motor. I had it re-tuned a couple weeks ago its alot better but it isnt perfect. This winter Im putting a built motor in it. I also need stickier tires. I also work 2nd shift so Im working at the same time the tracks are open. When Im home Im working on my 347 Sc fox body. My dad and I just started it up yesterday and should have it at MD in a couple weeks.

I agree, Im not sure what your goals are (Blazin). If you want better parts I would go with BMR, Steeda or the best which is Griggs IMO. The GT500 LCA'a are almost the same as the GT's. I noticed a decent improvement in the Steeda LCA and UCA on my car. Just my 2 cents.

Back in Aug. I bought my 07' GT with about 5K miles. It's Torch Red with black leather, 5 speed, factory 3.55 gears and 17" silver painted billet style fact rims. Only mods at that time were a Flowmaster cat-back. And with that its put down 268 RWHP and 285 RWTQ on Dayton Performance's dyno. A Pro 5.0 shifter and a Spec3+ clutch and lightweight flywheel. One piece heavy-duty drive shaft from Coast Driveline to handle all the torque I'm going to throw at it. Just had the Kenne Bell 2.6L supercharger kit installed at the beginning of fall. It made 10.8 psi of boost and 470 RWHP and 432 RWTQ on the Dayton Performance dynojet with a SCT X3 tune. After throwing some belts I installed a Thump RRR Racing belt tensioner. I have a lot of things I'd like to do with this car... Including stripes, a body kit and wheels. Unfortunately I got layed-off a few months ago so this is how its going to sit for a while.

Let me guess, you was installing a supercharger and forgot to disconnect your battery and arched out and fried the PCM. Just a guess but I here it happens allot so I am assuming you did the same thing. If that is true what supercharger did you get? and how much is a PCM?

Bingo! So we replaced the pcu with a temp one. Its showing code 2107? Throttle Body Actuator? I swapped tbs w/o change. They are back tracking the problem. Unfortunately for me there is a line of cars in front of me. I need to get some seat time on the car for some events. The car is brand new diff tires,PA,diff clutch (not in yet) so I need to adjust. So if you've heard of this before if you know of any possibilities? It cranks ,won't turn over.

Are you trying to slip the clutch like the stock unit? I'm used to driving the regular Spec stage 3 and it is more of an on/off type clutch being a 6 puck design. The Stage 3+ grabs hard too but can be driven a little more like a stock clutch can. I had the very slightest chatter on mine in the beginning but a lot of it has to do with driving style.

I slip the clutch a little so it wont stahl. It will shake till about 5-10 mph. I have the Spec stage 3 and aluminum flywheel. Isnt that what you have?

05Yellowgt, did you feel a difference with the K-member and A-arms. How did it effect ride quality? Is it a rougher ride? Did you feel a difference in the weight loss?

05yellowgt

Sorry didn't see your questions before. The ride quality wasn't really affected negatively at all. Along with the A-arms and k-member I also did the front swaybar delete at the same time. It made a nice difference in weight transfer. I did lose a bit of corning ability but nothing like you do in a fox body. If you don't do the swaybar delete then you will notices crisper turn in thanks to the poly bushings or spherical bearings on the a-arms instead of the soft hydro bushings in the stock a-arms.

I already have a Steeda light weight radiator support designed to work with the sway bar so Im not going to delete the sway bar. I heard the K member with arms makes the ride a rougher than stock I was curious how much. I want my car to handle like a champ so I think I will make the purchase.

It was installled on a lift. I think it only took a couple of hours. My a-arms got done at the same time so the entire stock assembly was removed at once then the new k-member and a-arms were bolted back in. It's doable with jack stands in the garage, just plan on adding some time.

What do you think of these? Not bad for 26lbs weighted loss. However Im not sure how the insurance company would like it if I was to get in an accident (Knock on wood) with these on. Do you think they would cover the damages?

I'm probably going to have someone make a set instead of paying $200 a piece for them. Are they worth it for a street car? Probably not.

Don't tell my fiance... oh wait, his supercharger money is on my finger instead  I don't think either of us will be able to afford superchargers anytime soon.

Too late, I wish I had the money

I think Im going to get them since my bumpers are off the car. Its a 26 lb. weight savings. Along with a K-member, A-arms and racing seats it will be around 90 lbs.

Sweet vids. Unfortunately I probably wont have any $$ to put in the stang for a while... I need to take an exhaust clip since I put on my o/r h pipe... it sounds tons louder than it did w/just my o/r mufflers. Chris' car is coming along as well... Ill tell him to post recent pics and mods on here :bigthumb

That a nice project you have. I have seen that video before. Are you getting the same motor and trans or the 3v in the picture? I want the sequential tranny so bad.

My car is having problems shifting at higher RPMs. I heard a K-Member brace fixes this problem. Does anyone have experience with it and will it work with a after market K-member?

Yes a kmember brace will help this, i still have the stock kmember though.

How much of a difference did you see when you installed the brace? Did you have a problem shifting at high RPM's? I have been told almost every 2005+ will have this issue if pushing over 450 rwhp.

Your right, he did beat me and it wasnt because my car is slower. It was a handful of problems that added up. Its going to be hard for anyone to beat a mid 12 sec. car with 4wd in 40 degree weather.

I never claimed to be the best driver. Im having issues with the car. Nothing you would know about because you dont have a S197 or even Mustang for that matter. Ask any S197 owner with over 400 rwhp and they will tell you it is almost impossible to shift over 4K rpm's. Even for someone like you who supposedly knows everything about driving. Arent you in the wrong forum? Here I will help you!
