Well did some more polishing over weekend/tonight, in between work, the kiddo, the cruise in ect, lol. Got my gt40's heads in today! yay me. Gotta borrow a valve spring compressor so i can get the valves out and do some more port work to it before i send them to shop but here are a few pics of updated progress on intake.. still a good ways to go tho.

im using a everything including the kitchen sink....
basically drum roll 80 gritted the casting pits and such down, then dry 80 grit hand, then 220, and 400, then grab polishing wheel and goto town.. but still toying around with what works best, fastest. Getting in between the runners ect been the biggest pain in ass, used small cone grinding stones.. but they left too course of scratches but got pits out.. so hell if i hadnt started this spontaneously and had prepared myself with some better polishing stones and such.. not just grinding stones might be able to speed it up but mostly done with the rough cutting now.

Well no new pics.. because i was in a rush... but did suspension upgrade today for a change of scenery. Dont know why the hell i didnt do it sooner... the tank handles like a dream again. KYB GR-2 struts and shocks... and che adjustable upper control arms. All went smooth till i got to control arms... then um yah i found out the pain in the ass about having a "unique" car... the air shock sensor on rear mounts to right upper arm.. and of course noone makes a mark specific control arm.. so i had to do some grinding, fab a bracket and weld it on.. but all seems good. Had to rush it back together since took so long and dad was having to close up shock. All seems good tho.. stays flat in corners now... no more body roll of doom :cool1:

well i got the gt40's dissasembled tonight to do my port work before i send them to shop.. all went fairly well.. was some rust buildup on a few the intake valves tho.. gives me concern.. maybe it was intake leak.. ect.. just hoping no cracks... here's some pics.

Well i havent done alot well i have, but anything to show, been polishing on the intake on and off, got the heads apart, sent them up to earl today to have them tanked/fluxed ect before i spend a bunch of hours porting them to later find out the heads are junk. And he told me he would tank them the 2nd time for free, before he does the 5 angle valve job and milling. So im happy, hope to get them back next wed (next day off since im doing the somersnite cruise thing this weekend) Scheduled a baseline dyno run at MD, next wed too at 9 am, so sounds like busy day but promising day. Curious to see what the ole 130k motor with just underdrives, electric fan, accel full tune up, accel 300 box, and some timing advance will bring..

Well today has been a busy day did my dyno run as most of you know, very happy with the 195.78hp 258.78 trq results. Also got my heads back from shop, tanked, fluxed, pressure checked ect, all passed. So on to porting!
Here is some pics i took today once i got the heads back.. and how far i have gotten along with porting i only have a few more hours left to fool with it today, but its coming along.

Looks good. I'm curious how much you improved flow, it should be substantial. I know around here it costs about $25 to have each hole flowed ($25 each), it would be interesting to flow one ported vs. one stock.

Well I been kinda quiet on here.. been doing alot of port work but you know.. not real exciting pics other than before and after.. im about 95% done now.. just need to finish polishing out a few spots, and working the short turn radii on my last head. Talked to earl today and they are going back to him next wed.. he is going to flow them for me also after he does the 5 angle job and such. We'll then see how much my 30 hours i have in heads or more was worth lol. I did go overkill on some stuff but hell i want them perfect, not taking them off to do it again. The finished pics will be up by end of weekend. Then while there off, i got to spend a few hours working on a few spots on the lower intake, and finish polishing out my upper. Oh if anyone has a set of stock valve covers i can trade them out, unless kevin finds his, im looking for a set i can polish out then give mine back in a month when i finish the build the weekend before our fall meet.
P.S. Any volunteer work for that sat/sun sept 20-21st i'll supply beer/burgers and tools if you supply some sweat and knowledge lol. All will be welcome

well everything is together now, but still not been turned over yet, thanks to the typical elanor problems in a build. All was going smooth some stuff took longer than planned but no major hiccups, till the O/R h-pipe, yah damn thing isnt made for shit, the driver side is too long, (yes i know driver side suppose to be longer) but still over an inch past that, so needless to say got it bolted up eventually with some muscle but without a rack i cant correct the rear section thats now shifted to far back ug, then got everything button'd down ect, filled with oil, put battery in filled with water, and my car broke its water! it was having a baby. Leaking around themostat housing (when i put it on i didnt like how it seated, thought gasket might have slipped. And of course on a ford those housings are a royal bitch to get to while anything i on front/top of motor. So took belt and tensioner loose to get to the two bolts to try tightening... they tightened yay me!, wrong its still leaking... ugg i pushed it outside for nite im too tired/frusterated to continue, tomm i'll pull housing off and try again lol. Hence reason i took a vacation for these such occurances. Anyhow here are a few pics of the final (non running product) Will get some in daylight tomm.

It's always the "little shit"
Thats why I put the thermostat in the housing, then seal the gasket over it. The thermostat cant fall out that way, and the housing is recessed for it anyway.

eventually, i just ran it around the block to try "clean it out" see if the idle would improve but nope, i think i have a vacuum hose leaking.. or needs rerouted. Or my timing is horribly off, i forgot my timing light at dads go figure, so i had to guess... i have it where it will fire with spout out, so i figure that has to be close. Definatly alot peppier even with it running like shit, its running pig rich also atm

sigh and just when you thought you had the major bugs worked out...
took it for another test drive, mashed on throttle once, and well the mount piece on bottom of throttle body broke off lucky i was only a few blocks from house, so i bumped the idle set screw up and let the car drive itself home lol.
I cant help but laugh at this point or i'll lose my sanity:lol::lol::lol:

BOOOOOOOOOOYAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!
Car is fixed, back to the basics yet again, my whole original thoughts of vacuum issues messing with map got me thinking... started pulling vacuum hoses off while it was running.. the hose that was direct from my intake to MAP sensor had 0..... vacuum pressure. I guess its internally stopped up in the intake. Rerouted the hose and runs like a champ!
No more black smoke, idles great.
I did back the timing back to a safe 10 degrees since its running as suppose to now, and fuel pressure is set at 30psi. Now time to actually tune, well and fix all the small stuff such as exhaust leaks ect lol.
Thanks for all the help and suggestions, it always seems to be the little stuff you never think of. I kept thinking vacuum leak.. not no vacuum period....
Thanks again for all your help sat/sunday keith.

Well some more fine tuning and a dyno tune to come in a few weeks, and a few runs at the track on a test in tune night here in a few weeks, and codename sleeper will be a success. That chapter will end, (sorta lol, till i put gears and a few other goodies in come springtime) and a new one will begin. Codename Pipedream (aka my 71 stang) will be soon appearing on here, I'll prolly post up some pics in a few weeks of its current state, sadly i dont have any pics of when i first picked it up 5 years ago. It's come a long way, even tho it may not look it. Maybe i'll have that up at next years cruise, and be more "fitting" to the mustang club:lol: I'll still be updating as things progress, would like to get the dyno tune done before season over, to get the a/f right if nothing else, and to see how much real gain i made.
Thanks again to all that helped, all the compliments, and the kicks in the ass to keep me going at it.

Ok time to dig this thread out from the vault I guess. As some of ya know working on gathering some new goodies to add to the lincoln for race season. So far during offtime, I have rebuilt the rear end with 3:73's a new trac loc and all new bearings. Along with that all energy suspension poly bushings in the rear arms, plus two new air springs in the front. Also installed a wideband and been tweaking with the car since, well up till weather hit.. been driving the beater truck. Anyhow the real goodies are coming. I got ahold of a tremec 3550 with the tko upgrades, 26 spline input, ect. I should have it by end of week, here's some pics.

On top of that Im working on a deal on a p1sc intercooled procharger setup :) So provided I get that, I'll be in good shape.
Now to scrounge up the parts for my 5 speed swap. Still need everything but the tranny, bell/clutch/pedals/flywheel ect.
Oh and almost forgot my creation wont make me go faster but will make the lincoln um be a bit less of a sleeper... Lets say im picking up a hood, and molding it to my hood. And we can soon call my car Stormin Normin Or Stormin Lincoln. Not sure if i'll make the ram air functional yet.

Well weather wasnt too cooperative lol.. i froze my ass off, and had many hiccups along the way, but i made forward progress thats what counts right? I got my valve covers on, injectors switched out, new flow kooler water pump, brackets mounted up. Unfortunatly the kit wasnt designed for the 3g alt, so i had to manufacture a bushing to space out the alternator stay, and slightly grind on the alternator case on the bumps that hold the screws in. Then had to play some musical bolts and such. All while being a high of like 35 or something. So I guess i cant complain. I still have to make a few more modifications and such, but hopefully on wed I can get her running again. Weather permitting, if not, then my trans swap going to have to get postponed

Sigh this supercharger install is kicking my ass.. more modification to make things fit ect, I should have known better being it wasnt technically built for a lincoln, had to move my coil today, cut out inner fender for the power pipe, got the oil pan tapped and return hose on, shit that reminds me i forgot to tighten the clamp! i still need one more fitting to make the feed line hooked up, then only thing left is reinstall power steering pump, put in the new fuel pump, put on the belts, install the fmu and cross my fingers.
So no tranny going in this weekend, but i would rather take my time than rush it.

But something is wack with i think the smog pump delete idler pulley because damn belt wanting to track off the front of the ac... and power steering pulley as far back as i want it to go. So doing a bit of research before i get more involed. Still have to put my gauges in, but i plugged my wideband to make sure the af wasnt off the charts. So forward progess is made. 03-15-2009, 08:13 PM
Well got the tach working, and took car up road for a real test run finally, pushed her pretty hard, well to 90 from a dig after i had did a few pushes. She's fun when boost comes in :) but its sitting at 15 degrees timing locked out atm. my passenger said boost made it about 7psi around 5500. no fiyah, and a/f looks great. With about 38psi fuel, 30lb injectors she idles at about 700 just fine. idles anywhere from about 12.5 -14.5 on af depending on load. Only negative thing from the trip was i had disconnected my pcv since I have the catch can setup. well apparently my crank still pressurized because it blew my pcv valve/grommet, the hose attached to it out, and of course subsequently oil.
So anyone that has boost i have a question, leave the vent tube from valve covers to the tb, or just cap it? its only place i can think, i could still be getting boost into the engine past blowby. My catch can setup vents both valve covers in the rear now.

I polished up the intake to clean up from what the winter did to it, cleaned up the paw prints off the powder coat and got some pics in the sun. You can hear a tiny bit of a rolling idle, but it actually is fine when in gear, its just i have it set so low, it will actually idle in gear at 650. Biggest thing its been sitting there collecting dust waiting for time when my buddy and me both had time to get it on his rack. Unfortunatly it was an evening and we had to call it quits after about 3 hours or the thing would be done. I actually predrilled holes from the underside before we left for my shifter hole, all i need now is go up top and connect the dots. It will definatly be together for the cruise :) still debating what im going to do for the shifter and the console, been thinking about deleting the console all together since its kinda useless really just have to relocate my mirror and window switched.
Time for some cup holders! Look at Ryans it turned out killer:bigthumb

mine actually has cupholders... they slide out of the leather arm rest... sneaky sneaky... but they are only good for small drinks since we didnt have keg sized drinks in the 80's. I use them once in a blue moon, and when i realized that console weighs like 45 lbs, yes its covered in carpet, and has a rear duct for heat and ac in back... leather arm rest (it shocked me how damn heavy it was. Its tempting to make it go poof.
But i have to admit ryan did a hella job

sigh well trouble in paradise trans all in but clutch issues...
clutch issues
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ok well got the 3550 installed and finally wired up ect, well problems in paradise. The clutch wont disengage, pedal to the floor cant get in gear if on ground, cant get in reverse in air. Adjusted the cable all the way in eventually same scenario. The pedal has no play in it now, its firm from before the brake pedal feels smooth all the way down, yet same story. I dont have a firewall adjuster. The flywheel is centerforce billet, the clutch is a lightly used centerforce dual friction, pressure plate still had machine marks, steel scattershield mcleod with the tremec adaptor plate. Had to put the adjustable pivot ball almost all the way out to put the fork near half way in the bellhousing slot. with the ball about half way put the clutch fork near end of travel. With cable adjusted all the way in, the fork has no play the throwout bearing just begins to rest up against the pressure plate fingers. Is the throwout bearing suppose to be putting any pressure on the fingers before you engage the pedal? Any thoughts? Im tired and frusterated so i gave up thinking today, and im no manual trans expert by any means either

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
im a dumbass!!!!!!!!!!!!! I found out the issue after i got thinking of what kind of a bell housing i had... I had to look at the want add... i had bought it from a guy that had it in a 94/95 so it had a spacer to go between the housing and the trans, so grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrr bright side i just need to pull the spacer out.

its gonna be a few days before we can get it back on the rack, but i guess i cant do much but laugh, we kept on going on about how smoothly things were going... for swappnig a 5 speed into a car it was never built with. Shitty part to pull the spacer we have to pull the trans completely out again :(

Hope that takes care of it Jon. You will figure it out. Hell, you have made everything else work when everyone told you it wouldn't. Keep a clear head on your sholders and everything will work out just fine. By removing the spacer, will you have to cut more metal for the shifter?

I hope that fixes it. Well meanwhile i wait on time that my buddy and I can get the car back on his rack to pull the trans back out for a 2nd time... uggg I ordered a register ring from mcleod to center the trans up in the bell since the spacer which is doing it now will be gone. That damn metal ring was 50 bucks shipped, sucks I coulda priced around tried to find one, but figured I need to get the car moving again so figured sooner ordered the better. Was shipped out tonight. Hell im still waiting on the slow boat from china to bring me my fmu rebuild kit.

Where I had the 94/95 transmission spacer accidently installed and the input shaft wasnt meeting the flywheel, and we had fired it up with the input shaft moving around with the clutch floating in place guess the load caused it to go pop :( sigh, back to the drawing board.

Well still cant get clutch to disengage... comes to find out the bellhousing I bought, which the guy didnt specify but I think is still wrong finally cross referenced the part number plus the measurement, and its a bell for the pre roller blocks. And what they call the short shaft 3550.... but the one for the roller and what they call the long shaft 3550/tko is within .100--.150 in of the one i have with the spacer in... now i found somehow the throwout bearing wasnt on the clip/fork right.. But still didnt fix it. So either the transmission is still a tiny bit too far out and its not going to work or the clutch cable is stretched and weak and stretching...

long time ago i pulled my t5 out (replace 3rd 3x lol), bell still atached we thought what the hell lets hear what open shortys sound like, the throwout bearing fell when i pushed in the clutch petal to start ,i reved it to the moon it explowed throwout bearing little ball berings everywhere ,wedge them behind pressure plate fingers ,didnt know replaced tob looked in side bell thought got lucky, not me when i went 2 put trans back in would not seal to bell, took every thing apart found ballbearing from explowed tob wedged in there ,,,,hope story helpes stick it out it will pay off in the long run:cool1: also if you replace bell u might have to replace input shaft

i talked to mcleod and a few other companies, the bell actually will work, with the spacer in place only thing is i wont be able to run any double clutch ect because the fork sits 3/4" forward than a correct bellhousing does. After much head scratching and talking, I think its a combination of the pivot ball for fork I have is the shorty, and I need a longer one to get the fork more parallel. Also going to add a firewall cable adjuster to help with deflection and give some more adjustment...

ok well good news trans issues fixed!!!!!! it ended up being the pivot ball was too short and combination of stretched clutch cable, put firewall adjuster and the long pivot ball on and fixed! Now to get my liscense back and fix the lean issue, next route i think is to pull the blower belt and see how it reacts without it. maybe fmu and all the 30's just cant keep up, or maybe its fuel pump ect, i need to get a remote fuel guage to monitor it while driving.
