I'm looking for a few new places to take the camper I just bought. I'm looking for fun places that have cool things to do. I.E. water slides caves creeks to canoe ETC. Just looking for some tips and locations to find this type of stuff. I think we are going to hit Longs retreat sometime soon.

The Red River Gorge is always a solid choice.
I think my favorite spot though is Hocking Hills.

We are going to Carter Caves this weekend which is just outside Ashland, KY. I'll let you know how it goes. So far I've found I like the KY State campgrounds best.

KY state parks, unlike OH and IN have both electric and water hookups.
General Butler off 71 (bout an hour south of Cincy) is nice.
KY Horse Park, exit 120 off I-75 is one of my favorites and they have a great pool.
Daniel Boone state park is nice with caves to explore.
My Old KY home state park has a nice golf course.
Indiana:
Beatiful in the fall with excellent shopping all year round: go to Brown County State Park (3hrs away). The wife will love shopping in Nashville Indiana. They have a nice pool too.
Also Clifty Falls in Madison (45min-1hour away) is gorgeous with great trails and beautiful scenery. Try the buffet on Saturday night at the lodge. It's Prime Rib night! Very tasty.
Ohio
Eastfork is good camping and has the lake for boating, sea doos, and a beach for swimming.
Rocky Fork is good too. Ain't been there in ages tho.
Check out the websites for each state to see exactly what amenities are offered for your hobbies and interests.
Happy Camping!

general butler has a lodge pool which they have been letting campers use after 4:30. they advertise only until 6:30 but everyone leaves for supper so you could swim until dark if you wanted and maybe then some. lodge food is pretty good, hometown pizza in carrolton has good food as well. if you get really board belterra casino is not that far either.after about 11 pm this campsite is really quiet. good place to take the kids with miniature train rides, paddle boats, putt putt (glow in dark at night), daily activities for kids to do. Some of ky parks are run by ky and some by the army corp of engineers. The ones run by the state offer more activities , also look for state parks that are resorts as they tned to also have a lodge which is good to go to if bad weather approaches

The one place that came to my mind when you mentioned water slides and caves is jellystone campground at mammoth cave.

If you haven't been to mammoth cave it is amazing. I went when I was around 10 years old and I remember it like it was yesterday. (i'm 37 now) Truly an amazing experience. :bigthumb

I always found it funny that people from Ohio make all the Kentucky jokes but that where they like to spend their weekends.
Anyway there is always Land Between the Lakes as well. It does get pretty busy at times but the area is huge. My wife and I will be building a place on Lake Barkley one of these days.

Kelly, take her down to Thorn Hill on a Saturday. There's a big fishing lake, the Licking River, a hiking trail, and of course the races at six P.M. It's worth while checking out, about an hour drive away, and fun to see the racers and talk to them about their Rods. I think the camping charge is $20.00 with electric hook-up.
Also, check out Cave Run Lake, near Morehead, Cumberland Lake, and Big South Fork at Oneida Tennessee, at the Kentucky State line. These camp grounds have first class camping, bath houses, boating, trails, etc.

I recommend a trip to "The Wilds" & AEP ReCreation Land. We went there on Memorial Day weekend. You can camp for FREE on AEP land at any of their HUGE campgrounds (without power hookups) plus fish for free on any of their HUNDREDS of lakes, we stayed at Wolf Run Lake campground & it was a great campground. It's about a 3.5 hr drive to there.
Just make sure if you go there you get gas when you get off the highway or you'll be screwed if you run out before you get to the Wolf Lake Campground (NO gas stations between Zanesville & there).

We also REALLY like Hocking Hills in Central Ohio, that is about a 2.5 hr drive.
