forgive me for my lack of modern mustang knowledge, but I thought all 94-04 mustangs were on the SN95/Fox-4 platform? What I meant by saving the money was instead of renewing the vanity plate, just go with a standard one.

I think that's kind of a gray area. I think the 94-98's are more considered SN95's, where the 99-04's are "New Edge". Who knows... I do know the interiors swap between the two.

SN-95
The Ford Fox Mustang was redesigned in 1994 under the program code name SN-95. This version was wider and many parts were redesigned. The Fox saw gradually decreasing use as more Ford products went to front wheel drive. It finally ended production with the last 2004 Mustang. This platform was replaced for the 2005 Mustang (code named S-197), with the new Ford D2C platform.
"New Edge" is the styling of the bodies on the sn-95 platform.
