Thats because he was riden, by a smart jockey.

He could have kept pushing him, but felt something wasn't right and pulled him back.

you are exactly correct.

Big Brown is worth far more in stud fees than any winnings he might get.
Why risk it when you know their will be lawsuits over the stud fees if he were to meet the same fate as Eight Bells.

The jockey did what was right. The trainer is at fault he, he kept the hype up knowing good and well Big Brown wasn't 100% from the hoof crack.

I agree that the hoof crack was more of an issue than they made it out to be.... Not to mention, every other horse out there hadn't run as frequently as Big Brown so fresh muscles played a role as well....

I didn't bet any money on it but my grandpa did.... Lucky dog put it on Da' Tara....

It's called gambling you are expected to loose. There is no legal recourse one can have in loosing a bet. In any course Big Bown would not have come in win, place, or show even if he did push him to the finish. So the jockey did the right thing no doubt about it. Sure are people going to be pissed they lost a wager but that is part of it, it's called gambling for a reason.

Stud fees on the other hand are legal binding contracts. The jockey did the right thing. Not only for the horses sake but for the sake of the owner if Big Brown were to have gone down the owner would have been out MILLIONS of dollars.

I got to watch it yesterday and I agree he did the right thing. No sense in riding the horse in to the ground if he can't win.
