So here are some of the other pics from the race weekend, like I said, there were some badass cars there. UC did very well, had problems on Friday w/ autox (which cost us poll position for enduro), accel (short drag race), and skidpad (think small tight figure 8's) due to power loss from over restricting the muffler (sound issues). They took the restriction out and increased the tailpipe length to get the sound down to passing levels (< 110dBa) and open the exhaust up, which brought back all the power that was lost the day before. Doing so made the team fast again for Enduro (20 lap race of 22km) and resulted in the 5th fastest endurance time, bringing the team to an overall finish of 10th place. (Based on our times, doing some benchracing math, if we had not had the problems, we probably would have finished 4th or 5th overall.)

Article that Winding Road made about the event (not highly accurate, but good informative read none-the-less)

Anyways enough of the talk, on too the cool stuff...

That looks like fun. Why do some of the cars have big wings but most dont?

There is always the question of whether or not Aero packages help these cars or not... a WELL designed aero package has been shown to be faster in more open courses, but less effective in tighter, slower course, in which case the added weight has no benefit and only slows you down more.

errr very bitter against you guys...won't let us MET's help/get one together. I did however get our old one started after 20+ years last quarter which was kinda cool.

huh? the OCAS guys just built one 2yrs ago (but was SCCA, not FSAE). And as far as I know, OCAS can get involved in Bearcat Motorsports, I just dont think they can get credit for it (ME's can use it for senior design), which isnt our fault, but the university's.

Unless things have changed since I was there, the FSAE team is open to anyone who wants to participate. I was on the team in 2000 and 2001, and I was a College of Business (Finance) student. :)

yup, still the same

the only additional requirement to compete at the actual competition (drive/present for static event) is to be a Student Member of Society of Automotive Engineers.

yeah they built one...but they didn't race in the same class as you guys do. I went over there a few years ago to your shop and there was a few guys in the shop i was asking questions and they were pricks in the first place. They said OCAS kids can't come and work on it, that it is just ME's. They looked older so i don't know if they are still there.

well, i can tell you as someone who has been around 5yrs as both a member of the team, then running the course; they were full of shit, we encourage getting as many people involved as we can. Whoever you talked to should have kept their retarded opinion to themselves.
