Defiantly am wanting to get some sort of lift for the garage. Unfortunately it looks like I am going to be about a foot short to put a 2 post lift in the garage.
So I have started looking at some other options.
I would really like an inground smart lift but it looks like they run about $8,500 installed. Just going by the cost benefit factor don't think I can really justify that one.

So I have started looking at these portable scissor lifts.

I think this is a very viable option as they are only $1,300 plus freight.

The pros:
Portable
Price
Doesn't take up much space (would just stay under the mustang)
No real installation other than assembly
No special wiring runs on a simple 110.

Cons:
I wonder how stable they are being that they are portable. Greg Smith (one company I am looking at)
Claims they are stable. I guess one could always add some sort of bracket to add some 2"x2"x2' removable extension bars to give it a wider base. When in use
Wouldn't be able to do transmission work or some exhaust work. Tranny stuff isn't that big of a deal since I rarely mess with it aside from changing the fluid. Far too complicated for me.

Just looking on thoughts and opinions. Any suggestions on a brand or company to go with or possibilities for other lift options.

The garage is going to be 25'x20'x9'

I have heard good things about Rotary Lift and Greg Smith Equipment Sales.

So are you building a new garage, or is it already built. If your building new, make it a 10' ceiling.

It's already begun and it looks like the ceiling is going to be about 9'5" at the most. With the grading necessary on the lot that is all they could squeeze for me.

the scissor lifts are alright except for working under the car. They are better for oil changes and tire rotations. They are pretty stable though. A nice 2 post will probably be best for ya.

Won't have enough room. Total height is going to be about 9'5" give or take to the ceiling then you have to factor in the clearance for the garage door.

Problem is our lot I can't add much grade to the garage. I would have had to go with 10' foot ceilings for the entire 1st floor which was just way to expensive of an addition just for being able to put a lift in the garage.
I do have 10' ceilings in the basement which is a huge plus. But hat only helps when building my media room and not the garage.
I think the scissor lift would work well.
I can do oil changes, brakes, suspension, rotate tires. Al that I am really hindered from doing with the scissor lift is tranny work (which i don't have enough faith in myself to do any way) and full exhaust work.
Plus if i need more room it is portable and I can get it completely out of the way. Which I like this idea being that this is an attached garage and not a dedicated shop garage.
My worry is how stable is it really

I have used one that is about 5 years old with no problem. My step father has a floor scissor. With it all the way up I can sit on a roller stool and be comfortable working under it. And it is pretty stable. We have used it for dropping FWD trannys and motors. As long as your don't buy a Harbor Freight type you should be fine.

Too bad you couldn't do a gabled roof.....
