E-250 van, misfire under load

A friend asked me to look at his van, it has a slight miss under a load. I checked faults last week w/ nothing stored. He asked me to check it out further.

Any known problems with these vans? I'll get the engine details here shortly.

My old van did the same thing. I ended up replacing all 8 coils and that fixed the problem. The coils at the stealership were pricey. I found some on eBay for. A good price. They are a bitch to change in a van. Ended up taking the fuel rail off for easier access.

What year is it? If it is a pushrod motor change the plug wires. If it is a modular motor it should have kicked a code out or aleast stored one since you checked the codes.

My coil on plug v10 had a missfire and even when it ran like crap it didnt log a code. A friend had a 5.4 that he could get to stop the missfire and he ordered all new coils from Ebay also. That fixed his.

Run a scanner on it,find out which one is miss firing and replace that coil.Ford had some bad runs on the coils for the modular motors there for a while.

I'm using a generic scanner, pretty limited to what it will do.

No faults, won't even show which cylinder is misfiring. However, it does show fuel trim. Bank 2 is pulled pretty low... long term ~ -4.7%, bank 1 stays close to 0%. My guess is something on bank 2 is the issue, but I don't have coils to swap and I don't want to waste this guys money. I have a problem with chucking parts at stuff

See if you can find a NGS tester it does a missfire test. That or try to find anouther scanner that shows preliminary codes.

Sometimes on the triton motors,,misfires wont set a code for a particular cylinder...I can however go into(with my modis) under Global obdII mode 6 test 51 to find a misfire history..easiest way...but yes coils are common,,coil boots and plugs...(motorcraft)Carry those thing in stock at work...

Having the same issues on my 2000 F150 5.4. No codes stored but hesitates and stumbles. Does it worse under load in overdrive. Waiting on a set of Accel ignition coils I bought to get here. I will let ya know if it makes a difference.

Replaced all the coil on plugs with a set from Accel and it runs a lot better now.
