Well the 80 mustang i bought a few weeks ago has finally started to get parts collected over the last few weeks. Friday afternoon i picked up a 5.0HO motor and AOD trans for a good price. Then After another run to jegs yesterday we got the rest of the parts to put the shortblock together (as a rebuild using stock pistons/rods)

not bad for a whole nights work. We started out tearing the motor apart to a bare block, then cleaned it up and started putting things together with driving to jegs and back in columbus. so it was a long day but well worth it. next week i'll be ordering more parts and getting the trans parts hopefully and getting it put in the car at least.

Great looking project.
You'll love the B 303s idle......rump-rump time.

I'll be running:
edelbrock victor jr intake
holly 600 DP
B303
Ported heads/port and gasket matched
crower valve springs
double roller
flow tech long tubes
E7 block (molly rings and clevite 77 bearings) on stock pistons and rods
C4 with some internal parts

in the next few weeks I'll be finishing up the drive train and transmission and rear end
then I'll finish the fuel and ignition system.

i only have time to work on the car on the weekend (work full time mornings and go to school full time at night). hopefully this coming weekend we'll get the 4cyl out of the car and get the engine bay prepped for the new engine.

What did the motor come out of? It doesnt really matter but the pistons look like the 5.0 truck Non-ho pistons. The only difference is the Dish pistons and non-HO camshaft so you should be good to go

A05C
04-27-2008, 09:24 PM
the motor is an E7TE which is a truck motor.

the guy i got it from said it came out of a lincoln or something he wasent sure. it came apart very easily and wasent in bad shape for being as old as it was.
the pistons are flat tops, and the new heads are HO heads that i got for a cheap price (same thing with the fairbanks 3000stall)

It's coming together nice Andrew, can't wait to see it on the road.

A05C

hopefully it'll rain this weekend and i wont have to work the track (was in jegs this past weekend instead of working OOPS lol)
then we can get the 4cyl out and prep the engine bay for the new motor and get someof the C4 parts ordered (flex plate, shifter, valve body, possibly shift servo and planetary)
then if i have money i'll get the pushrods, radiator, water pump, hoses and a fan

the only thing i dont want to have to do is put a cowl hood on it.. but i think there will be some clearence issues with the intake manifold and carb. if i have to i'll do the 86-93 front end but for now i'll just try and find a way to get away with the oem hood. hopefully today we'll get the motor set in the car and the new fuel cell in and start all the plumbing. should be an interesting day. b/c the owner of the shop (friend of mine) is putting suspension on his camaro and we might take it to the drag strip today.

but if anyone is interested in coming out and helping... we're working out in ada ohio which is about 30 min from lima. if someone needs directions or wants to come out and visit my cell number is 419-204-2234 i can get you directions to the shop or at least to a familer road then to ada where the shop isnt hard to find.

If you need to, you can always use 3/4" drop motor mounts

A05C
05-11-2008, 01:12 AM
i've got the jegs solid mounts in there. we got the motor intoday and got the fuel cell in place and a few other little things.

Crucial

you could always put spacers between the hood and the hinges ...would get much out of it and it will just look like the hood isnt adjusted properly

we've gotta get stuff done cause i really only have 2 days to work on it a week. im excited for next week bc i'll have the rest of the fuel fittings and line and we can get all that done. and bill's picking up my rearend and radiator so we can get the radiator in and new water pump and everything in the front. then get the new rear end in and the driveshaft and the trans rebuilt so both engine and trans have practically 0 miles on both of them :D

A05C
05-26-2008, 02:33 PM
i havent done an update in over a week, so here it goes.

got the new rearend, new radiator, water pump, hoses... the usual front end stuff.. got the C4 rebuilt yesterday with the PA Racing valve body and new clutches and steels. fuel system is fully plumbed from front to back, just got to wire the pump. got the ignition box installed yesterday and wired up (no pic (forgot to do that )). have to get a new flex plate (got the 157 tooth instead of the 164 (oops))
once i get the new flex plate this weekend the trans will go in and driveshaft. then hopefully it'll be just about ready to start up and possibly drive

why didnt you put motor and trans in together?

A05C
05-26-2008, 09:12 PM
i had a reason... but i cant remember off the top of my head, but i do know that the C4 was in good condition but needed clutches. so we just got the motor in first since we didnt have the trans done yet. but after i get to jegs this weekend and exchange the flexplates the trans will be goin in and finish up the rest of the little things and hopefully start it

A05C

*update*
after another run to cbus to jegs...
got the trans in last night along with the drive shaft and everything else buttoned up and the engine primed and everythign.

as we went to start it.... the starter we thought was good... was junk..

so today..

we got more trans fluid in the trans and got the new starter in. after that we went and turned the engine over a few times and finally hooked the fuel pump up and put fuel to the motor and started it up WOOT!!!

after getting everything else done we went out and took it down the road after getting it to idle and run decent. came back and tightend up the band in the trans really quick and went out again. this time a friend of mine with his LS1 car went with us and followed.

we got the hit and it took him to well over 90 to catch us.. at one point we were pulling away slowly but he came around us on the top end. (all this after we got the rings seated of course (and in a safer area so if something happend nothing that bad would happen))
but needless to say.. i took some video with my camera today, and when i get home from work i'll put together a short video and post it up for everone to see.

yea, im hopeufully picking up a set or making a set of subframe connectors, welding in the cage i have, a gear in the 8.8 rearend i have sitting at my friends shop with axles and a spool.

i want to see how far i can get with the factory 4 cyl suspension.

then down the road im strongly considering building a boss blocked 347 or 331 and throwing some nitrous at it. but thats down the road a couple miles. if i didnt have to worry about health insurance or child support lol
