This is the pistol my bro' (IBSTROKIN) spoke about. It shoots .45 LC or .410 shotshells.

That's pretty nice. Have you seen the Taurus Judge? It fires the same thing with 5 round capacity (revolver).

Yes. It is huge. I'd rather have a Bond Arms because it would be easier to hide. For the size of the Taurus Judge, I could find several other pistols that I'd rather have/carry that would have greater total firepower.
This derringer is cool. It is a backup pistol, obviously. :D

Yeah i'd love to have the Judge for something like home defense. Does the Bond fire both rounds at once or..?

One at a time. Two trigger pulls to empty it.
A new barrel set is $139. Since they are spaced from the pivot on the top of the frame, switching calibers is a one minute job.
If I were to carry a derringer, it would be loaded with .410 slugs! :D
BTW, the recoil of a .410 slug is stout but tolerable. (noise level is insane)

I used to have a very sawed off and shortened .410 that my uncle made...it was about the size of a 1911. I never did fire slugs with it but shot shells would definitely give you a nice kick.

Shooter's had a Judge in stock sunday night. I was talking to one of the cashiers there and he told me the killing power of a .410 is not what you think it is. Balistic gelliten tests showed it only penetrated 4 inches. 12 inches means it will get to internal organs. That means even if you hit the scum with a .410, you are not going to kill him. Even with slugs or 00 Buck. The .45 Long Colt is a stout round but it is old school lead only. No one really makes any jacketed hollow points or plus P ammo. Looking at the Judge right next to a .357 Mag, I will take the .357 mag any day.

Yeah, the uncle who made it lived waaaay down in KY in the mountains
I ended up giving it to my grandfather who passed away a couple years ago and nobody could find it in his belongings so it's a mystery as to what happened to it.

Wouldn't use .410 for defense just not powerful enough.
It a great round for snakes though!

.410, close quarters (within 10 feet), to the face, and abdomen... they won't bother you anymore.

That was kind of my opinion....i figured that obviously the scatter from a barrel so short is going to limit how effective it's going to be at a distance anyways, but at 10 feet or so, or about the average distance you're going be assaulted by someone, a .410 shot round should be lethal as all hell. Of course that's not to say a slug wouldn't be either, but i'd think you would have less chance of missing with the scattered round. Imagine a .410 shot to the stomach...that's going to drop all but the most doped up and crazed maniacs. It would be pretty useless at a distance though.

So how is a sawed-off .410 shotgun illegal and that .410 shotshell Derringer is legal?
Seems to me it's the same kind of animal.

I guess the same way a carbureted '85 is legal but a carbed '95 isn't. It's just another stupid law.

Rifles and shotguns have over all length and barrel specifications. Handguns do not.
It has nothing to do with the caliber.
A rifle or shotgun must be have a barrel length at least 18 in. or 46 cm and an overall length more than 26 inches.
One can have a shotgun or rifle that is less than these specifications but one must apply for the proper ATF tax stamp.
Whether is be an Any Other Weapon or Short barrel

should be over by then. BUt I am still rolling the 00 Buck from the 12 gauge.

Black92LX is correct. The problem is when someone changes the 'style' of gun without ATF permission. Remember, mistakes are felonies with firearms.
A bare receiver could be made into a pistol or rifle. Once it is, it can't be changed to be anything else without ATF approval.

If i remember right a hand gun can not have a 16" or longer barrel.
Keith can feel free to chime in and correct me if i am wrong.
I have had a few too many tonight so if i am wrong i'm sorry.

I do not believe nor have I ever seen a maximum length restriction for a handgun barrel. It kind of comes down to feasibility.
