Ive got a comp cams xe282hr lift in565 ex574. I was wondering if i should go with the springs comp recommend or use the ones i have. I have a set of dual valve springs 120lbs at installed height, and 390lbs open. The max lift on these is .650 and coilbind a.795. They seem comparable to comps if not aliitle beeefier. Not sure about the specs of the comps i think it was 123 ar installed and 290 open. Any suggestions welcome.:) Comp number 986-16

I would not recommend using what comp says. I run the smaller xe274 and my springs are about 160 closed 400 open. I also run titanium retainers. If you are gonna run any RPMs at all I would choose something close to what I'm running. I can check and see what spring I'm running, I 've got the box still. Do you know the installed height and diameter you are shooting for?

929-16 is the part number of the spring that I run. Itf you can accomodate a spring with a 1.54 diameter it works pretty well.

Not sure about that, im going to be pulling at least 6500rpms and want some spring that can take it. I cant find the paperwork on the ones ive got, so i cant give exact numbers on them. Not big on the specs of springs and what is what. Would it be a good idea to go better than what ive got, these will be on a 347 ?

I would run more spring than you have for sure, I don't think 120 closed is gonna be enough. I've got all the tools to check installed height, max diameter etc. If the heads are off the car you can bring them over and we'll figure out what you need to make it work.

Since you already have a set that is at least if not better than the ones comp recommends..I'd just run them. What comp recommends usually works pretty well. I run what is basically a Comp XR286R street solid roller cam in my 347 with comp 954 valve springs with Ti retainers and locks on my afr 185 heads. It sees 6500 on every shift...7200+ threw the traps on the spray. On boosted applications you do sometimes need to run a stronger valve spring to help control the intake valve better due to the boost pressure pushing on the backside of the valve.
