My brother spent two years at Incirlick when he was in the USAF.

I wish I would have bought a shot-gun there. They had hand made hand carved and ingraved Shot guns there for cheap. I did buy a couple rugs and some gold jewrey there. The 14ct gold there was like $10 a gram That is dirt cheap. We stayed on base there or in the alley out side the gate 99% of the time. We had a curfew there because of the Turkish and Iracq'i curds would start fire fights in the streets at night. Ask you brother if he survived any Turkish Taxi Rides. And Türk Tuborg beer will get you very drunk

I seem to remember him telling us about the beer. He said sometimes you would get 3% ABV and sometimes it would 20%. He's big in to history and loved being there. He went to basic at Lackland, then to Ft. Dix. After Turkey he finished his 4 years in at Kirkland AFB in Albuquerque. I think he spent a couple of months in the pacific northwest somewhere too.

Well yes and no. When I was advised of my options they were a little far fetched and not explained to me like they should have been. I chose to take 30 days Permissive TDY and severance pay of $20,000 before taxes. Well when I reported to the VA here in Cincy after I got back home, they told me I wasn't able to get diability because I took severance pay. I was rated at 20% by the Army when I got out. But I have since got that all cleared up and receive 10% disability thru the VA. Its not much but its better than nothing. All my bills are covered thru the VA so thats a plus. I hate to go down to that zoo unless its for my knee. The ortho clinic down there is pretty decent. Most of the doctors in that clinic come from University of Cincinnati ortho. I am definitely in a lot better shape now then what I was. Its weird I can jump up and down, run ,climb stairs and stuff but then if I go to kick a ball or something with my boys thats when all hell breaks loose.

I was set to ship to Ft Sill, Oklahoma to train in my new MOS of 13F (Fire support specialist) with an artillary batallion, because there was an opening and there was a cut back in Bradleys because of the new (and freaking awesome, I might add) Abrams 2. But with a couple of months to go, broke my ankle out in the tank field. Took the money, came home got married, and have missed it every day since.

Not really sure what I want to do when I grow up. lol I worked at the Red Cross for 8 years workin' w/ the military and I liked it.

Any thoughts?

That is so true.. I've never figured it out... I'm young, late 20's...
My uncle is in his mid 50's, loves the service and talks about it
like it was the best thing since sliced bread.

Now, my grandpa says it was pretty rough... (he was in Korea)

I think it all depends on where you end up and what you make of it...
My grandpa says, "it wasn't much fun gettin' shot at..." and I don't
think my uncle was ever shot at...

Anytime the fear of losin' your life is high, it can't be much fun....

Any thoughts?Being a Retired USAF "Medic" myself, I can assure you there won't be A LOT of negatives. (ie Combat, lot of deployments etc...)

Also, you won't experience very tough field conditions as due Marine/Army troops. Enduring Office combat from co-workers doesn't count! :lol:

You'll also experience many more perks going in as an Officer!

I highly recommend the USAF to anyone!

My wife is in your line of work as well. She has a Master's in Counseling/Development. :cool2:
