How wide of a wide of a tire can I run on a 17X8 bullit wheel on my 89 LX. Right now on the rear I have a 275/40/17.

I'd consider that the limit. 275s already bulge out on 8" rims. If you want to go wider, get wider wheels. 315 on a ten inch rim would look nice.
