View Full Version : 12 seconds at Kilkare 3/29/08

After a long and patient wait it finally happened but the car fought me all the way with gremlins galore but in the end Qtr milerocket and his trusty steed ROCKET put it all together for 2 monster runs the 60' clocks didn't work in either lane:
1. First 12 second run
330ft.........5.22
1/8............8.18
mph...........82.87
1/4............12.91
mph...........103.73
2. Backup 12 second run after a 2 hour cooldown
330ft.........5.15
1/8............8.09
mph...........83.36
1/4............12.81
mph...........104.21
Those that have known me for many years know that my car has been basically the same without modifications to the HCI for over 10 years and it's only been in the last several years that I've really put together a slow but deliberate plan of attack on the 12 second barrier concentrating fully on the suspension and freeing up power the car already has.
To say I was happy is an understatement of the highest order after the 1st "12" people were around me in awe that a stock HCI full interior car could navigate the 1/4 in less than 13 seconds and when I went 12.81 people thought I had anything ranging from the spray to "worked heads" a lot of people shook their heads in disbelief but if you've got a lightweight coupe with a worked suspension, good weather and good driving................good things can happen. :D

Awesome James...congrats!!!
Any bets on how long it takes Kil-Kare to repare the 60 ft timers. I don't believe the left lane worked most of last season...

Thanks but yeah there is a TON more left in the car (sub 12.50's) with some tweaking of course, hopefully next time the 60' clocks will be working........Kilkare almost always hooks but yesterday was certainly on the cold side.

Thanks Tim well I want to tweak it some more as I've heard of a few stock HCI cars running 7.99 or quicker in the 1/8th and 12.50's in the 1/4 but before I make a run at that I'll probably just work with what I've got for a minute although you never know. ;)
Sweet...Do a big wheelie?lol
Thanks Jim.....yeah man that's a wish for me to do a wheelie like the big boys (a foot or more)!!! :D

my cousin has a coupe all stock went 13.8 spinning hard on street tires at 103 , id say wit ha few bolt ons and some traction he would be able to pull a high 12

What specific things does your cousin have right now as the car sits? as 103 mph on regular radials is very impressive providing he indeed has the stock HCI as you indicated, you are correct in that with a few odds and ends it would most certainly be 12 second capable.

The driver mod plays an important role as well and with those mods it should be doable with traction among other things, typically wheelspin will slightly elevate the mph when running on regular radials versus running on slicks, your cousin should go ahead and tinker with it a little as it's always cool to see a stock HCI 5.0 running in the 12's. :D

James,
I went 12.86 @105.75 on my 275/40/17 Toyo Proxies in '07 with a 1.83 60 foot. Spinning like a mad man off the line too.

Yeah Adam but your little 2v is probably capable of 12.30's with some suspension work......light years ahead of a lowly stock HCI 5.0 :D

Yeah but how many stock suspension and stock H/C/I 2v's, on 2" Eibach lowering springs do you know of running mid 12's? I'd probably see at least a .15 better time on stock springs alone.
