I have a 91 LX 5.0 stock , I'm looking to go fast but the cheap route. I have priced parts and on my budget looks like all i can afford right now would be the gt40 set up route. But i gots a few questions. I was addin up about what it will cost i figured 300 for heads 100 or so for cam 300 for intake.. But a friend of mine says i shouls just find a mountineer motor or explorer and just do a cam swap and put it togther, That i would be gettin a bigger throttle body gt40 intake gt40 heads etc... for probally cheaper than buyin seperate. Give me some advice on what to do..

My combo will be gt40 heads , gt40 upper and lower, ford motorsports cam, not sure which one yet. I'm also gonna throw a kit on it probally 125-150 shot so what gear would be good this is a 5 spd car. Thanks for your time peeps

I was thinkin Mid 12's on motor Mid 11's or so on spray . Next year would be all suspenion work so maybe 10's next year same set up.

Check out these guys. I found them using car-part.com. They are in Circleville but they have the explorer motors going for 369.99 with warranty. Ive been thinking about going this route too.

Make sure you budget money to swap the stock valve springs. They're junk even with the stock cam, and with an aftermarket cam you'll probably get valve float around 5k.

That's the only bad thing i've ever heard about those engines. I've never heard of one person who's had any luck with the stock springs, but even if they were as "decent" as E7 springs you would still want to change them if you put a cam in it. Weak springs can really jack up your valve action and kill lots of power.

if you haent found one yet i got one with more than u r looking for for and is within u r budget,plus it is fresh no miles,most junk yard motors are at best pot luck,holler if u need it,oh yea it needs to be finished assembled

just makin sure be4 i make the purchase. i will be running a 16' drag radial on stock ponys what gear do i need to go with 373 390 or 410 i will be sprayin the car 150 at the most

Go with a 3:73, the pink car had a 4:10 and I was on the rev limiter going through the traps in 4th gear.

The pinks car was also putting alot more power down and had a glide in it. That car needed 3.73s or even 3.55s at the power level it is at. Or are you talking about another car all together?

That car had 327 in it i would guess with that power.. He's talking about his old car he had.. 373 it is.. Thanks guys

Just my experience with my setup. I was running a 4.10 gear in mine and not spraying until 2nd gear and I was on my rev limiter in 4th with plenty of track left so I bumped mine to a 3.73 and that helped out tremendously. I was only spraying 100 shot. I might have a F cam for sale if this new cam I get today works out.
