From a few years ago, looks oddly similar doesnt it? Seemed like it took till June to get the track cleared of all the debris from the flooding.

Or next weekend. I bet they have to postpone the UMTR race. :( There is no way that place will be cleaned up by next weekend.

haha...it's still safer than Tristate.

I hope they can get it cleaned up relatively fast. If not I would like to see the UMTR race rescheduled instead of dropping it all together.

I wonder why alot of drag strips are built by some body of water. This seems to happen all the time. ( Floods) I remember in Hawaii ,the drag strip got drenched ( Ocean )...Storms etc.. and I kept thinking then, why here? why not farther up the hill or away from the water? Do you suppose it's cheaper to gain access to this land versus somewhere else? Either way it sucks and it all equals the same thing, no racing.

Speaking of White T doing his thing at the drags..... Check it out.

A lot of times the drag strips were opened by small time hobbyists or groups that didn't have a ton of money. Finding large, flat, open plots of land isn't cheap. Flood plains make for cheap land because it isn't useful for much else, and drag strips aren't really affected that drastically by flooding (not as much as other businesses or homes would be). Same deal with small air strips, like Thorn Hill was originally. Thorn Hill is still considered to be on a flood plain but rarely goes under because it's so far above the river level.

I wish I would have known there was a drag strip on Maui when I was down there. Even if it's closed now I would have liked to see it.
