Ok, put a new cam in my 93gt today. Having trouble getting the dist. set right. It's not wanting to start. So mark the balencer and brought it to TDC. Set the dist to the #one plug. What am I doing wrong

I'd wager that it's 180 degrees out. You're setting it at TDC of the compression stroke and not the exhaust stroke right?

I have moved it about 13 times trying to get it right. Is there any easier way to find where it needs to be

I set the bal. to (0). Thats were it should be right.

Turn the engine over again 1 complete time. This should get you back to the comp stroke in case you were using the exhaust stroke to reference TDC

Check the stupid things first like making sure your plug wires are going to the right locations etc and making sure your coils are plugged in blah blah.

You're aiming the rotor at the #1 post on the distributor cap too?Even if your timing is 20-30 degrees off, as long as you're firing #1 near the top of the compression stroke, you should at least get some sputtering.

No not at the #1 post. At the #1 spark plug. I've got some sputter. All the plug wires are right, and the coil it good to go too.

I thought it was supposed to point at the number 1 spark plug too?

I was going to correct him on that too. I take a black sharpie and mark underneath the cap where the #1 plug on the cap is. Then you line up the rotor button with the black mark. Thats #1. It'll fire up then.

1)Take out # 1 plug-Front left cylinder. (standing in front of car)
2) Turn motor over and place finger over plug hole until you feel air pushing out and than bring balancer up to 0 mark. (It should already be close)
3) Find 1 mark on distributor cap( approx 11 oclock position when in front of car)
4) Place distributor in car so that when fully seated the rotor is facing the spot you designated as # 1 on the cap. Techinally you could place it where you want it.
5) Place Distributor cap and plug back in place.
6) From that point wire in this sequence 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 in a "counter clockwise" direction.
7)Your left cyls from front of car are 1234 and the right 5678.
8) Start car with spout connector unplugged and set timing to approx 10-14 BTDC. and shut off engine.
9) Tighten down distributor and restart to check it hasnt moved and than with car not running replace spout connector and your done.

* I may have covered things you may already know but I was trying to cover everything. Let me know if that helps. Also make sure you didnt wire up the old 302 order which is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. Your is the windsor order mentioned above. Some chiltons manuals even list the firing order as clockwise and thats incorrect.
