modulars need to turn some rpm's, obviously there are a lot of different variables between combinations and usage (mostly track, a lot of highway, etc.) but a basic rule of thumb for best performance would be..
(For N/A applications)
2V- 4.10 minimum
3V- 4.10 minimum
4V- 4.30 minimum
(basic bolt-on power adders are a lot different but still relative)
2V- 3.55 or 3.73
3V- 3.55, 3.73, or 3.90
4V- 3.73, 3.90

I think a 3.73 is a good all around gear

I would use any less than a 4.10 in a modular car. Matt's list was dead on. 4.56 here! :bounce: plattner01 - dude you need to resize your signature man. That thing is huge!

I run 4.10 in my 06 with MT. I highly recommend them.

What kind of mileage will you see with 4.10's? I drive on the interstate about 25 miles everyday, I don't want my mileage to hit the floor. I have heard that with 3.73's the mileage is similar to stock?

I run 430's in my 02 GT 5 spd. It's a lot of fun, but I am getting close to running out of gear at the track. 70mph=2500rpm. between 16 and 20 mpg.....usually 16

the ONLY reason anyones gas mileage worsens more than a MPG or two, is because they no longer find it easy to keep their foot out of the throttle.

Love the Avatar Rustang, so, realistically, I'm getting around 23-24 mpg, mixed driving. I should get better than 20 mixed with 4.10's?

If you can lay out of the throttle as much as you do now, you should have no problem keeping it over 20+
Mark,
4.10's would be the perfect gear for your car. That's what's in mine in preparation for the Whipple. Otherwise it would have been 4.30's.

I agree....BUT, I have traction problems with my blown 4V with stock 3.55's on drag radials (but a good deal of that is due to the POS IRS).
I had 4.10's in my 2V 00 GT, 4.30's in my 4V 01 Cobra, and currently have 3.55's in my 4V blown 03 Cobra.

Who said that I lay out of the throttle? LOL!
But thanks for the knowledge. I think I will go 4.10's then. Anyone have any reserve about buying used gears?

My used 4.10's were much quieter than my new 4.30's. It's all about the setup in my opinion as long as they are in good condition.
EDIT - both sets were Ford Motorsport gears and the used gears were only used for a short time...

agreed for the most part, a Richmond gear has pretty much no chance of being quiet whether its new or used LOL, but as long as everything is set up properly and there is not excessive wear on the used gear you should be perfectly fine.

Go with the 4.10s. You will be very pleased with them. Listen to the guys above.

I'm very happy with 4.10s in my 96 Cobra. It even cruises very nicely just below 3000rpms @ 75-80 on the highway.

4.30's but going 4.56 in the 05' if I don't spray? Love the 30's though good all around gear, fun as hell on the street.

I've got FRPP 4.10s (Mikronited by Crane) and I love em. The 3.55s were too long in the tooth (literally), especially in 2nd gear. MD installed them and did a great job...whisper quiet.

I'm not that fast, I'm just that good.
I've sportin 4.10s. Imagine what I could do with H/C/I, suspension, and/or a power adder.
im running 430s but i dont drive mine much so gas mileage isnt a problem for me but when it was a daily driver with a .030 over windsor i ran 373,s with a t5 and i loved them

Yeah, i'm not buying that for a second, if you LOST time with a gear swap, there is something up with the driving. What was your short time?

Best cheap mod you could have done was remembering to bring your lug key to Kilkare when I had the slicks there for you.
Is it gettin' hot over their in lovely Iraq yet? Seemed like early April was alright, but damn all hell had broken loose by the end of the month.
