Although we don't have any details on what caused Coddington's death, we do know that he was in and out of the hospital over the past month. A spokesperson for the Coddington Corporation confirmed his passing earlier today and they'll be releasing a statement soon.

Sad news to the Hot Rod Community. I remember reading and seeing Boyds builds in magazines during the 80's. He definetly raised the bar high for others to follow.

I guess I should have taken that job offer 4 years ago. Now I'll never be able to say "yeah I used to work for him". I think he got real sick 5 or 6 years ago and almost died.I know he had lost a lot of weight. After watching his show, I bet stress had a lot to do with it. That sucks to hear, I was hoping to get to know him someday....

I really liked that all aluminum ride they did, that impressed me a lot. The man had a lot of talent.

One of the guys at work did some plinking around on the net and apparently Boyd had taken a fall at his home earlier this year and that his death may have resulted in problems from a surgery. Sounds like he also was diabetic and that may have additionally complicated the situation.
