View Full Version : So who wants to see my new car?

I can't wait any longer! This has been a long process, but it is so totally worth it. We should be bringing it home in the next few weeks, but there are still a few details to work out. I'm just so excited I had to tell everyone. So without further adieu, here is my new car:
1965 Shelby Cobra Factory Five replica

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a117/the1ukgirl/Car%20Pics/Cobra2.jpg
It was built by a friend of ours a few years ago and he enjoys his Z06 more, so he was hoping to sell it to someone who would enjoy it and gave us a great deal. This is like my dream car and there are some wonderful plans for it, but we need to break it in a little, only has 360 miles on it. Okay, now the beans are spilled, I'm happy. :)

Thanks guys! I am very excited. AJ and I wanted to build one ourselves, but when the opportunity arose to purchase this one already built, we couldn't pass it up, great deal. It such a fun car! I say build one if you get the chance to, but be aware paying for them and insuring them is difficult. Even a lot of companies that insure collector vehicles won't cover these because they are kit cars. Not many options for financing either...mostly home equity and personal lines of credit. But that being said, totally worth it. The car really needs a little TLC, but overall nothing major. Really just needs to be broken in so the little bugs can be worked out. Hopefully I'll be flaunting it at the spring cruise-in!

02-27-2008, 12:02 PM
what engine does it have in it?
REDHOTGTGIRL
02-27-2008, 12:07 PM
Thanks Holly! I'll have to take you for a ride.
The white coupe was supposed to be the donor car, but the builder only used the tranny and rear-end, he bought everything else brand new because he didn't feel like ripping all the old stuff out of it. It has a 302 in it with some bolt-ons. It was a crate motor and only has 360 miles on it, so it needs to be broken in. AJ has a few more details on what type of bolt-ons it has.

Thanks guys! We are for sure rally pumped about getting it. As rachel mentioned its been both of our dream car for some time now and when the opportunity arose to pick it up, we couldn't resist! it has a brand new efi 5.0L I. it with a b cam, gt40 heads. trick flow uppper/lower, 70mm tb, 24lb injectors, upgraded suspension and much more. should be a fun little ride!(excuse the typing - downtown on jury duty, typing on pda phone)
nice! whats with the white coupe sittin in the conner?
that was the donor car for his build. in reality the only thing used was the trans, rear end and alternator. everything(including the wiring harness) was bought new. :)

At first I was expecting a new GT mustang or something, but then I saw you posted up that it needed work with the exhaust and other stuff, so I was thinking classic mustang, but this kills both of those!!! Very cool guys, congrats! I'm sure it will get you plent of looks!

No way your only making 250. You got a good flowing exhaust setup, its breathing cool air and getting jolted by a 6a (i think) box...
With a stock tune and safe timing, that setup is going to make at least 300 by my book. Maybe I'm wrong, but I dont think so.

Rachel that is too cool. My wife had been talking about this option as well. If you guys don't mind I would like to get my wife to sit in it. Shes only 5'2" and wasn't sure if she could see over the hood. Congrats and enjoy it.

Just remember, it is my car. ;) But yeah, AJ already has many dreams for this little car. Once we actually get it and get to drive it for a while, we'll consider some more options.

It is a cool car. It's a small car, so I don't think she would have any problems. It sits low to the ground, but the hood really doesn't stick up. I'm 5'10" and it is actually a tight fight for me in the seat, not a lot of room in there for long legs. I don't know how the guy who built it drove it, he's 6'2". I should have it at the spring cruise, so feel free to come up and say hello and your wife is more than welcome to have a seat and see if she likes it.

The white coupe is not ours, so I don't know what the plans for it are. It's in really sad shape, wasn't in good shape when he got it and it has been sitting there for 4 years.

It may get a turbo someday, but I'm just planning to drive and get a good feel for the car and have fun this year.
It was a big day today, brought the car home!!! It is in our garage as we speak!! I am totally stoked! Now to get working on it and have it all ready for it's official debut at the spring cruise-in!!

REDHOTGTGIRL, I build FFR cobras in Toledo for a living. They are the nicest Cobra kit car out there. We just finished building the owner of Factory Five a 427 FE Cobra. He wanted it to be a vintage looking car, It turned out real nice.We just delivered it to him last week.If anyone is in the Toledo and wants to stop by the shop, we are building 2 Cobras, A65 Coupe, and a GTM supercar. Tours and looking are always free. Take care of that car, looks good. Scott

It really isn't too bad. Like $250 a year. There are a lot of stipulations(can't drive it to work, limited mileage, etc.)

As you probably saw from the pics, it hangs down low at the back of the pipes and it's also touching the body where it comes out the side. Plus the "j-pipes"(connect the headers to the side pipes) don't seal up properly with the side pipes and they have a nasty leak. Can't really hear because the car is so flippin loud but it needs to be fixed. I will most likely take the car to Bethel Frame & Body (which is where I have taken both of our cars) because it's closer to Rob's direction - which is where we are headed right after the alignment. Hopefully if the weather is good to us, everything should be taken care of this weekend! :bounce: Then it's up to you for a spin on the rollers to see what she puts down! :bigthumb
