Looks like Hd Dvd is out, this happened sooner than i thought. Im glad i have a ps3 that plays blu ray!

I'm glad I didn't just pickup that HD-DVD player last week at Best Buy.....I almost gave in for the 5 free HD DVD's gig that Samsung had going on. :D

I paid $99 for mine and got 5 free movies plus it does a really good job upconverting. I'd say I got my money's worth! ;)

I knew I married you for a good reason! :D The only problem I have with using the PS3 as a blueray player is, I don't believe it provides HD audio(TrueHD, etc. lossless format) and that's a big reason for me going to HD in general. That and I believe there is supposed to be a big generation change going on for Blue-Ray and hate to buy a $300+ unit, only to have it be obsolete within a year or so. :dunno:

You will be fine for the Upgrade with the PS3 the Ps3 is defiantly the most future proof out there.
The new version you are referring to is BD 2.0. PS3 will be able to handle the upgrade. Most players will not because it has a hardware requirement of 1gb of media storage. The Ps3 has 40+ dependent upon which setup you get.

As for your Audio as long as your receiver has HDMI v1.3 you will be fine. Or if your receiver already decodes it.
Supposedly DTS-MA is going to be added to PS3s next firmware update.

I was straying away from the PS3 as my player but the more I read the closer I come.
1st hold back was the remote is bluetooth and not IR so I can't use my Harmony Remote. Well there are adapters now so that problem has been resolved. Now my only hold back is the lack of DTS-MA support. But I will wait for a more definite answer on that before i pull the trigger.
