Is a bypass valve on a supercharger the same thing as a blow off valve on a turbo set up? Is its purpose to vent boost, when the throttle blade closes by either letting off the gas or during shifting?

Also, can you run a regular mass air meter with a blower setup? For example, a lightning meter in the fender on the end of a power pipe?

Is a 255 fuel pump and 42lb injectors big enough for low boost, say up to 8-10lbs?

yes
probably but it might not be big enough
and yes

Where would be a good place to tap an oil pan for an oil drain? Does it matter?

On the very bottom...just weld ya a fitting where your oil drain used to be. LMAO!!! J/K

somewhere above oil level toward the top of the pan, and more towards the front. Mock it up and see where the drain can run without any kinks, and let gravity do all the work. You might be able to see where I put mine in my buildup thread. Its on the drivers side of my canton pan.

And what is an FMU? Is it required?

Thanks for all the help guys.

Blowers are their own filters of sorts. You never really need to change the oil anymore, you just let it circulate thereby sustaining clean oil.:D

tap or weld a bung on the front of the pan to either side.

FMU is fuel management unit. It has changeable diaphragms to deliver more fuel when needed looks like this http://superchargersonline.com/product_detail.asp?PartNumber=V6Z110-130

If you tap it, make sure to fill the tap with grease, that way the chips stick to the tap, instead of droping into your oil pan. Make sure you don't go to deep with the pipe tap or your fitting wil leak.

The motor is out of the car, and the pan isn't on the motor yet, so we should be able to just wash the pan out afterward right?

YES! You have a few more choices since the pan is off. You'll have no problem getting a pipe plug fitting into the pan.

They make a fitting that slips through a drill hole. It slids in the hole and you put a nut on the other side. It smashes 2 gaskets together to make a leak proof seal. Call a parts store, they should have one.

James,

My setup will be making any where from 8 to 13ish lbs of boost, I am running 60lbs and 1 intank 255 and one inline 255.

With that setup, I will never have a fuel starve issue. Better to be safe than sorry when it comes to fuel.

That just sounds way overkill to me. If its not needed, then what is the purpose?

Its not overkill that fuel system will support enough power to outlast the stock block. You never want to fall short on your fuel system

So 42lb injectors and a 255 pump won't be enough?

If you have to buy injectors just buy 60's 42 will work but 60's are a better deal. Also I would put a booster pump on the car since they are cheap and easy to install.

I made 500 rwhp with a set of 42's, before pegging the meter. Don't run a fmu if at all possible. Since your pan is off, I would weld in a fitting, probably a -8. You may consider using a big air 2800 ma meter if your going to use a sct chip, that way if you ever swap inj.'s you won't have to have your meter recalibrated, it can be done in the chip.

As far as fuel system, my opinion is that using a 255lph in tank with a 255 in line(vortech t-rex's sell cheap on ebay), like Paul's, will support all the power your stock lines and rails can flow. Which is probably around 500(rwhp, 5-speed) or so safely. Upgrading fuel rails and lines at the engine would probably be a good idea also. You can buy adapters to run stainless braided hose to your stock line(from fuel feed to fuel rails). If you do that then you would need to change your regulator also.

If you keep the boost down to around 8lb.'s, these upgrades probably won't be necessary immediately.

If not going with an FMU and bigger fuel rails, would an additional inline pump and 60lb injectors get the job done, on say 10lbs?

First off boost is not a measure of horse power. Its a measure of restiction. Second whats the combo you plan on running?

10 psi on an S trim is different then 10 psi on an X trim etc. So if you want to make lets say 500 hp then build your fuel system for that. I ran two pumps like Paul with stock rails and made close to 500 hp and well over 550 tq to the wheels with a very rich mix. Best to error on the safe side though.

Just a basic GT40P setup with a novi 1000.

You should be fine with an in tank and booster pump. 60's will work fine.
