I don't really think the end of the war is going to be upon us for at least a year or 2.
But cost has done it for me at the time being.
Got me a coupon in the mail from best buy offering 20% off any HD DVD player. So that will make the Toshiba $120 plus Best Buy is running a deal until Saturday that you get 9 free movies when you buy and HD DVD player.
So my Upconverting DVD player has been on the Fritz and needs to be replaced. I figure at $120 when Blu Ray does win I won't be out much money at all.
Can't wait to watch Transformers in HD DVD:bigthumb

Sounds like a great offer, and Blu Ray is the way to go.
Let us know how it works out for you.

HD DVD is dying....Blu Ray is the way to go....plus my PS3 does Blu Ray. :bigthumb
Although for $125, I'm tempted to just have both and get those 9 free HD DVD's. :D

PS3 is lacking in it's audio capabilities.
$120 with 9 free movies is the reason I am getting it. My DVD player needs to be replaced and my current TV is only 1080i. So it meets my needs for the next year.
Then I'll be in my new house and the real home theater will begin. Hopefully the Pioneer Elite Blu Ray player will be sub $500.

Are you kidding me?
HDMI from the PS3 to my 50" Sony 1080i (upped to 1080p) and digital optical connection to my Sony 6 speaker surround sound (only a $500 system a year ago so it's not Bose or anything)
Come listen to Call of Duty 4 at my house in Dolby 5.1!!!!! :bigthumb:bigthumb I think it's awesome!!!!!!

Yeah, AJ was trying to wait it out, but Wal-Mart had a deal in November for a $99 Toshiba plus 5 movies and he couldn't pass it up. Transformers in HD is amazing! I agree that Blu-Ray is better, but we don't want to fork over the cash yet. Although a PS3 serves dual purposes... I'm sure we'll end up with Blu-Ray in the house eventually, AJ loves his Audio/Video toys.

Dolby Digital 5.1 is old news my friend.
DTSHD and Dolby True HD is where it's at.

I read that Universal isn't going to exclusively support HDDVD and that's likely to be the ending blow for them.

I am well aware that HD DVD is going to go the way off the dodo but i think it's a couple of years off.
But Like I said my DVD player is losing it so it must be replaced either way. And for $120 and nine free movies. Plus Netflix rents HD DVDs at no extra charge. I figure why not.
Hell LaserDisc was fun while it lasted right.

i did just that b4 xmas. got the 89.00 deal and they shipped me the higher end model A3 due to lack of inventory. plus 7 free dvd's. i figure what the heck i needed a new dvd player, its a cheap upconvert and you get the bonus of HDDVD...
its awsome on my 46" 1080 lcd..
and i figured one the price gets a bit more reasonable i will buy a PS3 to replace my PS2 and then I have both formats.
