i am putting new bearings in the bottom end of my motor. i measured the crank where the rods and main bearings go with 2 different sets of calipers and they are reading bigger than what the manual says. Where the rods go i measured 2.125 and the manual says 2.0465 to 2.0472. Where the mains go i measured 2.2500 and the manual says 1979-1990 2.399 to 2.3982, and from 1991 on it says 2.2059 to 2.2051. in my bearings they say STD on the back of them , does that mean they are a standard bearing? how can i tell what year my motor and crank is so i know which reading to go by for the crank. thanks for any help, scott

My book (Haynes), shows 2.1228 to 2.1236 on the rod journals and 2.2490 to 2.2482 on the mains.

You should use a micrometer, instead of calipers, to get the best possible measurement. ;)

There is a VIN code stamped on the block, that will tell you what year it is.

I just figured out I was looking at the 4cyl crank specs.I used a set of dial calipers and digital calipers. Who sells a good micrometer for cheap?

I'd try Harbor Freight, for micrometers.

I would add, that your measurements, with the calipers, is very close to spec. I would think STD bearings, will work just fine.
