I decided to swap the 5sp out for a c-4 and decided to do a compression test because my vacume has been down slightly since the first DD shootout after melting a plug. I found the cylinder that the plug melted was only at 85 psi so I figured some of the plug got up in the seat. I was wrong. Can't hardly believe it ran a 10.14 with this:eek:

I decided I'm getting tired of unhooking all the crap A/C, P/S ect. so I figured I would delete it but I still needed something to hook up the KB so I fabbed up a little bracket out of 1/4" steel...it turned out great and with a T-nut gives me tons of belt adjustment.

I hand honed the cylinder and got the motor all buttoned up again. I'm also redoing the fuel system... I think I've been at the limits of a single intank 255 with a boost-a-pump and 6an feed:lol:

It may be a good idea to get a in car wideband, then you would know when it's going lean, but your probably right, upgrade the fuel system and your piston problem may take care of itself. At least you have it back together

I have a wideband and it is fat on the Dyno. My problem is that I have a timing control knob in my ashtray and I get greedy trying to get that 9. I think I also need to quit using pump gas and put a race gas tune on it.

That car is gonna be fast with that c-4.

Too Fat can cause detination also.

kennebellcobra

Too Fat can cause detination also.

I was doing some reading on that. My methanol nozzle was after the blower shooting right at the cylinder that keep getting the # 3 piston so I moved it before the blower to help distribution.

That car is gonna be fast with that c-4.

I hope so but I'm not sure since I make full boost at 2500. It would suck to do this and slow down:(

With the right converter I definatly think you will pickup some ET. I hope we both make it into the 9's this season. I agree with you that your pushing the limits of a 255 pump. You can't have too much fuel system....especially with a power adder.

Decided I would see if I can set the engine back 1" so I don't have to run a spacer with the c-4. I had to do some mods but it fits with the KB.

Good luck on the 9's! I know we talked about it, but race gas is $$$$ but cheaper than changing parts out all the time.
I ran my car at the track on c16 all year (120+passes with no problems). Last day Edgewater was open, I tried my hand at pump. Ran good (10.4) but I lifted a head on the last pass:eek: Probably the last time I try that for awhile:bigthumb

Still waiting on the rack but did all the little crap I usually do last after getting motivation from hearing the engine fire. I got the neutral safety switch, back up light, trans brake, trans temp gauge, dual relays for the new pumps. I also moved my LED light for my methanol on the shift light so I can see it better.

Does the return have a hose or pipe that sends returned fuel away from the pickup? I seem to remember some blurb about the fuel getting cavitated and leaning out from a return that just dumped into the tank from the top.

Looking awesome tho!

Mines about ready to hit the street.

It dumps it directly above the pickup and is angle forward a little. I know a few guys on the corral that are running low 9's and put it on the bumper with this tank so hopefully I won't have any problems:angel:

Took it out for a test run tonight. For some reason with the new fuel system my afr was 10.3  so I need to do some work on that. I never threw a belt or anything but that 1/4" plate is flexing causing the belt to squel if you go wot so I am going to box in were it bolts to the heads with spacers and weld some angle on the back side. I only had my 12 lb pulley on it and pulled a bunch of timing out but it really did'nt impress me that much. I know I need to get it on the dyno and let Ken work some magic on it. It's going to take some getting use to the rev manual valve body too...I kept trying to push the clutch in thats not there:lol: I also think the converter might be a little to loose...on the brake I can hit my 2 step @ 4800 with half throttle. Driving normal it feels pretty tight:dunno: My trans temps got up to 210 going up hill then would run at 180 just cruising normal...does that seem high?

And Jon I have mixed feeling about the dynomax they are kinda quiet compaired to the mac's. After all the cutting and welding to make them work I guess I'll keep them on for now. I seen your Dad tonight while we were out on the test run too.

Blowpastyou
02-07-2008, 11:12 PM
my converter does the same thing. At like 1/4 throttle I hit the 2 step while on the brake. Im interested to see if anyone says anything about this. This being my first car to take down the track, ide say some seat time is neccesary before letting off the brake for me.

PonymanfiveO
02-08-2008, 12:33 AM
210* is a little hot for a tranny, but I wouldnt call it dangerous. Id keep an eye on it for sure. Of course it was pretty cold out today too. You may have some probelms when it starts to get warm out.

Damn at this rate you will be busting off some 9sec. passes by March or April!!!

The tranny temp getting hot sounds like almost identical to when Dedpedal had his first converter in his car. It was way to loose for his combo. I'd call you converter company..talk to them about it. Sounds loose to me.

93hulk
02-08-2008, 11:18 PM
210 isnt that bad. I wouldnt go much higher but my old Lentch would go from to 160 to 215 depending on how i was driving and from what Lentech says that is normal.

kennebellcobra
02-09-2008, 12:27 AM
Talked with ptc and they said they could tighten it up no problem but they think it's right and should not be a problem and that 210 is not bad and to not worry unless it goes 240 and stays... spikes up and down as long as they come down should be fine.

Heres the funny part after talking with them I took zippy a ride and we beat on pretty good seemed tighter and I was impressed. We went side ways in drive and the trans temp never went above 180 plus it was warmer out. I have no idea what changed:confused:

I put it on the out side before the cooler so I would know the hottest temp.

Custom bracket take two. I was getting a lot of flex out of the 1/4 bracket so I had to make some changes. First I welded the spacers to the plate and another 1/4 plate that bolts to the head.

Took the wife out driving it today. I was a little worried with the rev mvb but she picked it up quick and said it's easy leave me alone. I was also surprised how easy it is to steer with the 17x9's with the manual rack.

Drove it alot today and man that auto eats gas:eek:

I thought it would not be as fun with the auto but I'm really liking it with the mvb and the hammer shifter is awesome:bigthumb The trans temp never went over 190 all day and that was just going up long hills it would stay 170 mostly.

I did notice sometimes if you hit it in drive it just blows the tires off and sometimes it just flashes the converter and does'nt feel as strong. Any one ever run into that?

Alot of that has to do with the temp of the fluid. The cooler the trans, the harder it will hit the converter. You have more line pressure the cooler the trans is. You will realy be able to tell a difference when you are at the track useing the trans brake.

Custom bracket take 3:mad:

I thought the 1/4" angle around the plate was over kill and there would be no flex but I was wrong it seems to work fine with the flex but it lets the blower snout flex which I know cant be good on the bearing so I decided to rig up a heim joint over to the alternator bracket. It's still not totally gone but I think I'm just going to have to say good enough and see what happens. It probably flexed 10x's more than it now with the factory bracket I just never noticed:lol:

I decided I would change the gear for the auto and repack the clutches...It never goes the way you plan. I pull out the trac-loc and the bearing on the ring gear side falls off:eek: Ok, it's just the bearing right:lol: New bearing slips on and you can even wobble it a little:mad: Luckily I found some new 31 spline take outs for 149. Thanks, Tray! I took it apart and shimmed it a little tighter and everything is back together again:D

While I had my engine jacked up I decided to try and make a little more hood clearance plus try to get a slight vibration problem I've had for a while fixed.

I took out my alot taller than stock prothane mounts and took them apart. I ground a 1/4" off the material off and put a hole where the bolt goes

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kennebellcobra/DCP_1487.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kennebellcobra/DCP_1488.jpg

I then cut off the sides and used C-clamps to put presure on it while I tacked it in place then I pulled the plate off and welded it on both sides and ground the side that sits on the pad flat.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kennebellcobra/DCP_1489.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d183/kennebellcobra/DCP_1491.jpg

I took off a little more than a 1/4" on both mounts and it dropped the motor almost a 1/2"

Whatb happened to the bogarts?I was runnin the 165r15's on my car.Was havin issues with the car swaying all over the track on the big end.Decided to go with the Mickey Thompson sportsman fronts.I heard your not supposed to run a radial and a bias ply on the car at the same time.Just trying to rule everything out.Plus I dont think the lil VW tires are rated to go 150 mph either.

Damn dude. that car needs to lose some weight. :tongue2:

kennebellcobra
03-16-2008, 09:51 PM
It is a ptc converter. I just think they don't do roots blowers as much and to make 15-16lbs of boost at 2500 it needs to be tight not like a turbo car. I already talked to them and told them I thought it was to loose and they said run it first then if it needs tightened they will do it no problem. I also make peak power at 57-5800 so theres not a big range
