Petsmart on Houston Rd has training classes. Don't know how good they are or what it costs, I just see them there when I'm picking up my pet supplies.

Im sure if you call your local vets they can hook you up with obedience training for you and your new best friend. Just remember, your not only training the dog but mostly yourself. The key is being consistent and vigilant. Dogs are simple animals motivated by love, pack mentality and food of course. They can be easily confused when you are not consistent in their training. The work you put in this dog now will reflect in his behavior the rest of his life.

Here you go. These pics are not the best since my camera has the two second delay from the time you push the button and the picture is taken. He would look at me and I would push the button and then he'd look away once the picture snapped.

Get this, his original owner named him Stang (this is what caught my attention when I found him on Petfinder.com) and thought it was a little ironic. I contemplated about a possible name change but Stang seems to suit him well and it's going to stay.

His toy from his first family. His original family had two small kids and he was always with them. When the father dropped him off at the shelter, he said his little daughter wanted to give Stang the teddy bear so that he wouldn't forget her.

Worlds! But you have to be willing to work with him on your own. Most training classes train the owner on how to train the dog.
The dog already wants to do nothing but please you. You just need to know how to let the dog know what you want him to do.

Heres a story, my golden retriever and I went to obediance classes with a friend of mine and her german shepherd. We both completed the course. I continued the training at home as you should. She did not. NOw when we take the dogs to the park she spends the entire time yelling for her dog to obey, while her dog runs wild and terorizes everyone in sight (he wouldnt hurt a flea but is huge). Her dog walks her around the block and anywhere else he wants to go. I took her dogs leash one day and proceeded to retrain him in about ten minutes and we had a nice walk at my pace. She was amazed. Its all about your discipline not the dogs. Dogs catch on quick...people not so much.

Nice looking dog! I'd love to get a rot some day. I've been thinking of taking my Boston Terrier to the QCTDC to get some training. I think he'd have a lot of fun with the agility courses.

Mike at Petsmart in Florence is awesome. He trains your pet and you together. Highly recomend them. I paid 99 for the puppy training class and it was great.

That's cool. Shelby (the boston) has a lot of energy and I think training would help a lot. He's pretty obedient, but I think further training would be good for him. As I said before, I'd like to do the agility courses with him, I think it'd be a great outlet for him because he is so energetic and likes to play games.

92stangman, there is a trainer at Petsmart in Florence. His name is Mike. He taught a class that my wife and I took our puppy to. He is very good and will get your dog disciplined and attentive. Classes are relatively cheap and once a week. Mike is the manager of the training program there. He is especially good with big dogs, he has a bull mastiff that is so obedient that its crazy.
You will have weekly homework to work with your dog and everything. But it is well worth the time that you put into it.
