This is on a 89 lx with a 5.0. I'm helping a buddy put aftemarket gauges in. We need to know what wire color the factory uses to go into the gauge cluster for the fuel level for his fuel gauge. Hopefully there is a Stangbanger here that knows this. TIA!

I'm not sure about 89's, but 1990-1993 used a yellow wire with a white stripe from the sender to the inst panel. Depending on how much gas is in the tank there will be between 22.5 and 145 OHMS on that wire to ground. (less OHMS for less gas) Hope this helps.

I heard that 89 was the goofy year (figures, thats what I bought). Half the year was 22 to 145 ohms and the early half was like 120 to 240 or something. Not sure if I'm testing for ohms correctly. I'm testing the wires back in the hatchback where they go through the grommet to the fuel tank. With a meter do I put one lead on the Yellow/White wire and one lead on one of the black wires?

It looks like alldata lists it as a yellow w/white tracer. Hope this helps.

yes, that will tell you the ohmic value through the sender, but you can check it just the same at the gauge panel with one lead on the yellow with white stripe wire and the other to ground. (FYI all solid black wires on these cars are grounds):cool1:
