I just did the 3G upgrade and the voltage gauge is showing discharge and the battery light is lit up.

I used the original 3G voltage regulator pigtail see pic below.

http://katmanduonline.net/Tech/3Gpigtail%20small.JPG

I totally eliminated the factory rectifier wire (2-Black,1-white wires) and replaced it with a larger (4) Gauge wire back to the starter relay.

The original 3G voltage regulator pigtail has a self-contained white stator wire (see pic above) that loops back into where the spade connector goes into the stator.

There's also (2) other wires (green and yellow) on the voltage regulator's pigtail. The factory harness has (3) wires. Green, Yellow and white. I spliced in the green and yellow wires and cut the end off the white wire and taped it off.

What do I need to be checking out ?

What year car is it? I know on my 86 the wiring wasn't as straight forward as on an 87+ car.

Yea my 86 did that with the 3G upgrade right after i cooked the stock wire and replaced it with 4 gauge wire.In one of those wires you taped off is where the gauge in the dash draws its power from,i dont know which one but im sure if i head home and look i could tell ya.I also have one of fords EVTM manuals that will tell me where it goes.:bigthumb
Wait i have the EVTM manual with me,hang on let me check.

If its a fox body:my book here says that the Light green with red tracer wire coming from the alternator runs to the alternator warning indicator which is connector 247 that is Lh rear of instrument panel.Check that wire and see if you removed it.

Thanks for the reply. :bigthum:

Found the problem. Whenever I eliminated the original rectifier wiring, I cut the ends off and taped over them. Well.... I forgot that the voltage regulator's yellow wire ties INTO this harness and connects to the starter relay. That's were it gets it's juice from! DUH! :fishit:

Anyways, I just cut the yellow wire back out of the old harness and wired it directly to the alternator's output (rectifier) post (along with the 4 gauge wire).

Works GREAT now !!:D
