Well, my wife has decided that she wants realistic flames on her car when we paint it. I'm not really one to pay anyone to do anything and I have the equipment so I thought what the heck , I'll try to learn to do them myself. Right now I don't have the right colors so bear with me I'm just trying to get used to making the shapes look decent. The one in the top right corner was done using various round items around the garage as a stencil. The other two were done with a homemade stencil. I think with some real colors and some candies to kinda blend the whole mess together they will look pretty good.

best way to learn is doing what your doing:bigthumb,i have been racking my brain drawing on copies i made up a coupe for my next paintjob,i have came up with the best fucking idea i think i have ever thought of,i am so ready to paint mine it's driving me crazy:bounce: i bet for your life you couldn't picture my paintjob if i told ya,put it this way the drivers side will be a totaly different color than the passengers side.

That sounds like good advice. After looking at the pictures things start to look really repetitive even though I tried to be very random. I need to make a small and medium stencil and get some better colors. I'll get there eventually.:D

Yeah, the randomness is what makes realistic look, also, try not to do too many in the same area, i know that it may just because your practicing. But too many on top of each other would really take away from your work.

Looks good for practicing. I'm sure the real thing will look even better.

I really just need to practice and learn from the mistakes. After you do a couple test panels you start to see what looks stupid and what looks right. Decent colors will help a lot.

the hardes part u will find is grouping the layout,at first i tried on an old hood.i couldn't seem to get the layout in as a group, seems like i ended up just filling the whole hood in with the shit, couldn't get it to flow into a line or group(or your layout) (like the green on the side of daves car) just keep practicing u got the idea, also go over the same hoop 2 or 3 times it gives it depth looks to be rolling (hold your sntecil close the first time and get a sharp hoop, then hit it again in the same place but hold the stencil off the panel let it blow under the stencil so it isn;t as shap as the first hoop u did.

Thanks for the tips. I figure I'll just keep painting little test panels till I think it looks decent, then I'll base this entire hood black and try to do an actual size layout. If that looks good we'll work on getting the rest of the car prepped.:(
